Walking around inside and outside of the main exhibition hangar of the Moorabbin Air Museum.
Plenty of historical artifacts there including some unique pieces. Well worth the visit for anyone interested in aviation in general and particularly in history of the Australian aviation. About 3 hours should give you the time to look at everything and read every material there is.
Their souvenir shop is pretty good, the staff there is fantastic, although at the time of my visit (November 2023) there was no cafe, only a vending machine.

I know guys at HARS have had one Beaufighter restoration project under way for a number of years including the engines, so one may hope it is going to be flying when completed.

@@AndreyBrizhinev Thanks Andrey, Regretfully it sounds like the aircraft at HARS is another one is in a similar dust collecting limbo to the one at Duxford UK unfortunately, seems there are several, viable airframes about but no one seems to come up with the Hercs although you see them running on rigs . Let’s keep hoping I appreciate it needs huge amounts of expertise and financial,and engineering resources. Makes you wonder how we ever conducted warfare with thousands of them .

Excellent video! Got to the Point Cook Museum while visiting Vic but now kicking myself for not getting to this one too! I hope they can get those outside aircraft into a covered environment at some point soon.

I think the Bristol Freighter & Canberra were stored out at Essendon Airport in the late 70's. I used to ride my bike out there & jump the fence to get into them. There was a Catalina there at the same time & a guy restoring a P51 down near the old Beaufort building who used to let us hang around & see what he was doing. A mates dad took he & I to Moorabbin one time & we opened the belly hatch & got inside the Beaufighter which was outside at the time, gee he wasn't happy when he found us !

Many thanks, really appreciated you taking the time to do the film. I first went their in 1974 as a kid and was most impressed with the Junkers Jumo Turbojet from the Me 262 of al things! I'd love to go back as we moved interstate in 1975. I'm most interested in the tail fin/rudder of the Mosquito painted in silver on display near the Beaufighter. Would love to know which aircraft it came from? Many thanks
@AndreyBrizhinev
@AndreyBrizhinev Жыл бұрын
You are most welcome! I am glad you enjoyed watching the video. I was too impressed by the number of engines on display there and that particular Jumo especially. The tailfin you noticed came from one of the Australian Mosquitoes indeed. I'll reach out to the office of AARG and ask them your question.
@AndreyBrizhinev

Good day! Lovely Grace from AARG replied with the back story on the Mosquito tailfin - it was the only thing (along with the canopy) that was salvageable from someone's backyard in Mathoura (NSW). Apparently, a Mosquito was stored there, but unfortunately rotted away almost completely. I have no further information on the serial number or particular history of this aircraft, sorry.

Are there any examples of the CAC CA-23?
@AndreyBrizhinev
@AndreyBrizhinev Жыл бұрын
To the best of my knowledge, the CA-23 project did not move past the wind tunnel testing, so the best we can hope for is for a scale model to survive somewhere. I personally have not seen one but will keep my eyes out for it.

The way this country treats its history is an absolute disgrace. In any other country, these aircraft would be on display in a purpose built, climate controlled environment. We just chuck them in a shed, and hope for the best. Thanks for posting this excellent video . . . it may be all that future generations will be able to see.

I was told they have acquired some land right across the road, where a much larger hangar is going to be built to house all of their civil aircraft. The military collection is planned to occupy their current hangar. Let us hope this will be done sooner rather than later.

Couldn’t agree more. I used to volunteer there many years ago. They are working to a budget but it would be relatively easy to get sponsorship to store what could not be hangared inside. Instead they are left to deteriorate outside in the weather. The Meteor in particular will be in very poor condition. It is only in recent times that cockpit covers have been used. This is about 5 minutes away from my house. In a southerly storm it is not unusual to have salt spray from the bay on the car windscreen. You can imagine what that does to an aircraft over time…..!

@@AndreyBrizhinev The CA-15 [the correct designation for the aircraft] was a victim of technological progress. Whilst reputedly being the fastest single piston engined fighter in the world, it was overtaken by the emergence of jet powered fighters. When it crashed on a test flight, it was deemed uneconomical to repair and so subsequently scrapped, thus bringing the CA-15 Project to a close. By that time the RAAF was looking to re-equip with jet aircraft which it proceeded to do so by acquiring the Gloster Meteor F8 and De Havilland Vampire aircraft

I am afraid it is not. This plane is what the museum has started with back in 1962, it was lovingly restored (no doubt about that) but I cannot find any reference to it being airworthy.

Please see this comment as helpful, not critical. Taking the time to get a close up of the written plaques of information would have been great,(we can always press pause). Also editing out needless moments like walking up steps can decrease the time of your video giving it a more chance of being clicked on. Slower movements are better also, allow the viewer to enjoy the moment. Over all you tried. Next time try & see things from OUR point of view, not your own. Thank you for uploading this. Good luck with your channel.

Thank you! I absolutely like your approach to the criticism and will try a few things you suggested in my next video. The plaques can be challenging, as they are not always done in a reasonable (for a video) font size, but sure worth a try.

Could you consider deleting the soundtrack and adding an explanatory voice-over? That irrelevant, indecipherable and annoying natter natter natter in the background contributes nothing to this vid.
@AndreyBrizhinev
@AndreyBrizhinev Жыл бұрын
On the one hand you are right, and a voice-over can contribute, but on the other - I am not a subject matter expert and my commentary may not be of value to people who know much more than I do. The way the video is presented leaves you with the experience of walking there and I strife to provide correct model names for all aircraft I encounter.
