That is Ruth Welting. Really an underrated singer, I think. She was wonderful.

Such a tragic true story....

Very “American” pronunciation- easily understood. Not always the case, especially for the Soprano voice. A lovely rendition of this role. Reminiscent of Sills but with her own approach, more youthful perhaps.

who is this? she's incredible!!! I thought beverly sills was the only one who could make that high D sound good, but I was mistaken! that was amazing!

5:47 is where Tabor's aria begins.

And where is the American Soprano today for who a major revival could be mounted. Never done at the MET - even after the whole Sills/Bing issues were long gone and both had passed. A great shame. Still a fine American opera.

I don't think the D was underpitch, but the note following was a little off. She has lovely breath control.

You are correct. Every soprano seems to have a hard time with this aria....

It was ever so slightly under pitch but it corrected itself, before following with the Bb which was also iffy, but to the point above mine…this aria is tricky all around. English is difficult to sing in even at the best of times, but the transitions going on here made this even harder…and that octave jump is absolutely the hardest part 🙃🙂🙃🙂 That said…I still find this easier to sing than Silver Aria 😆😆😆😆
