Our full length video from Moore Oklahoma on 5/20/13. Video starts from SW 164th St. looking west/southwest at the fully condensed stovepipe tornado. We then drive up to Pennsylvania Ave. where we stop and film some more after the tornado had transformed into a 1/4 to a 1/2 mile wide wedge tornado. We then drive north to SW 134th/4th St. and head east on it to the intersection of it and S Western Ave. where the video resumes in front of The Crown Center. I then run across the street and film a little there to get a better angle. There is a white Chevrolet pickup driving past me that my partner had just spoken with that lives right where the tornado was going through just south of the intersection of Southwestern and 134th/4th St. He had told my partner that he had heard about the storm and went down the street to check to see if they were in the path or safe. He also mentioned that his children were still home. The tornado ended up being to close by the time he had seen it to make it back to his house safely. We still to this day do not know the outcome of his situation. I would love to learn that the whole family had survived maybe just being in the outer circulation. At this moment, it is also making a direct hit on the Orr family farm. Once we started driving again we travel east on 134th/4th St. and we end up having our closest encounter with the monster of the day. At this point, you can hear a distinct roar coming from it as I am telling my partner to back up as it starts to widen and is also directly over the Briarwood Elementary school at this time. We let it get east just a bit and then proceed to following again. As we come to a stop after passing through Sante Fe Avenue you can hear it once again still doing damage. At this time it is directly over Plaza Towers Elementary and is seconds from a direct hit on the Moore Medical Center. May god be with the families involved in this traumatic experience and may the recovery process be quick and successful. @@robertstone9988my great grandmother lived just outside murphysboro and went in to try and help after she saw the wood flying around the backend of the tornado. She said it was all gone. Children’s bodies were mangled and tossed around Logan school. The trauma of watching a kid walk across the dirt road in the rain crying with half his arm bent horribly, coupled with the fires of the coal mill nearby that killed her neighbors was terrible. She only told us bits and pieces before she passed. The fact she said the only time she ever got PTSD from it was from seeing pictures of villages in Vietnam bombed always got me.

I'm always surprised that we hear so few accounts of PTSD, etc., due to these horrific events. Survivors of tornadoes certainly fit the criteria for post traumatic stress but we, and content creators, only seem to be focused on the tornado itself, not on the people suffering through this horror. I couldn't imagine experiencing something like this without it affecting my life.

This is the first video I’ve ever seen that gave me an accurate sense of the scale of an EF5 wedge in relation to a house or neighborhood. Even in the distance, that thing looked gargantuan. But at the point where you started backing up, it was like standing in front of a giant, about to crush the neighborhood. This is the first video that gives me a visual reference that conveys the true “mile wide” enormity of the funnel. The video was shot at angles that made it feel like being there. This was truly awesome. And terrifying. THANK YOU!!!

Not really on edge.. Tornado alley has started to shift to the east.. This was the last ef5 tornado in oklahoma which is the longest time frame between F5 tornados in a very long time.. What I always find interesting about massive wedge EF4-5 tornadoes is how subtle the funnels seem to spin. Some smaller tornadoes reveal their violent rotation much more clearly, where the larger (and deadlier) wedge ones seem to conceal their ultra-violent spins inside a thickness of slower-moving outer funnels and debris clouds. RIP to all who were lost to this monster.

This was a devastating day for us here, in Oklahoma. Moore is my home town and I now live about 5 miles from there. So many lives were lost that day. Children were killed. Teachers were killed protecting children. One teacher was pregnant. She and her baby died that day. I was in a panic, as I did not know if my grandchildren (twins) were in the shelter by the time this hit, until about 10 minutes after the tornado hit. I THANK GOD they were already in the shelter. I just cannot describe the devastation we went through, while still living in Moore,. May 3. 1999 was bad enough but this one was even worse. We are expecting tornados this coming Tuesday, April 26th, 2016. I have a very, very bad feeling about it... I pray people are prepared and ready to get to their shelter BEFORE the sirens sound, as by then we only have a few minutes.. Please, if you live in the areas the tornados are predicted to hit, just STAY HOME that day, keep your children, loved ones and pets close to you and ready to go into the closest shelter possible. Have a few days worth of survival supplies for your family and pets. Remember to take any medications into the shelter with you and anything else you may need in case you are trapped. Register your shelter NOW so the police, fire department and EMSA will know your location.. Just praying my gut feeling for Tuesday is wrong...

D5quared91 Yes, God does work in very mysterious ways. It was so heart breaking to see the little children being buried over the next several days. My heart broke and still breaks for those children's parents. I do know they are in heaven with Jesus and no more sorrow, pain or tears shall befall upon them. The worst part was when that group, West borough thought it was okay to protest at the funerals of the children and all others, while holding signs that said, 'They are burning in hell" and things of that nature. I thank God our governor made it illegal for them to be anywhere near the funeral services for 2 hours before and two hours after each service. The people, here, in Oklahoma, really came together and formed human blockades to prevent any disturbances. i just do not understand how that group goes around the country doing such things when people pass away, especially little children. I do know that God will hold them accountable for their actions... He IS our Lord and Savior!!!!

A friend of mine grew up in Moore, lived in Oklahoma the first F5 that hit in 1999. Her parents house survived the first two F5's and lost their house in this one. They never returned back to Oklahoma after that. Can't say I blame them. I grew up in tornado alley myself, never once saw a major tornado or had one even strike near me. In 2011 the outbreak on the east coast, I experienced my first major tornado, an EF3 formed and went through my backyard. The train sound you hear is so very true, it destroyed a Lowes store 15 minutes away. I live in NC now, here you think about hurricanes possibly, not major and deadly tornados.
@juliewagoner2113
@juliewagoner2113 8 жыл бұрын
WickedlyMe328 I am thankful they survived that awful day. I do not blame them for moving and never returning. I am thankful you survived the 2011 outbreak. Yes, the tornados sound exactly like a train that is literally about to take out you house and possibly take your life. I know the hurricanes can be just as destructive but at least there is usually enough warning for people to get to away. I just hate the destruction that comes with both the tornados and the hurricanes..I am certain it was VERY terrifying when you did experience your first tornado. So many people think it would "be cool" to see one. They just don't realize what they are asking for....

FYI: on the west side of town, the sky was blue that melted into overcast the nearer the tornado began to form. The news helicopters gave the visual such an odd yet eerie experience, as the west of OKC was clear and sunny, but that massive rain cloud that covered up the tornado was black and enormous!

this was the one of the worse days of my life. I remember it like it was yesterday. just 3 blocks from my house if I went any further north than my house would be gone. it hit my sisters school and almost killed her. it was my mom's birthday. our back porch umbrella was two streets over and on someone's roof. there were school lockers in my neighbors driveway. there were military personnel lining the street for looters. we didn't have power for a week and a half. I remember there being food stations in parks and at churches. we were at one getting food and water for dinner. I got a hotdog and crackerjacks. then all of the sudden airforce one flies right over us. it was crazy. you could see a line from the park 8 miles to the theater. it was crazy.

Took me all these years to want to find a video of what was happening while I was in the storm shelter. Live right in Moore, Ok and I hope whoever is renting our home now never sees bad weather like we did this day.

To understand the science behind them. To make better warning systems and find out how to build houses and shelters better. Spotters help notify people as to where the tornado is and when to take shelter. They help by calling into the national weather service to gets warnings out to civilians in the path. Not a job for the faint of heart, for sure, but they're doing it for a good cause. We need the data and videos to help prevent more fatalities in the future. A nobel and dangerous cause. Some are just thrill seekers but most just have a passion for the science and wonderment of these storms. A lot of them go to university and are meteorologist or engineers. Again, just trying to make things better for the world.

I love in Moore, I remember this tornado very vividly, I watched it destroy the Warren Theater less than a mile from my house. Just watching this video I'm terrified, and it's 1000 times worse in person. The sight, you can see all the debris as building and trees are ripped out of the ground. And the sound. The sound is almost as bad
