I am almost 70.I was a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix and all of the music legends of that ere. I never knew that the Yardbirds did a cover of "HEY Joe". MAN,they did an amazing version!!!
@ronfisher5259 Жыл бұрын
Tons of groups covered Hey Joe-I’ve found 35 on U-Tube. I was in high school when I got a record that had the Leaves version, then got the Music Machine version- and it was ‘ off to the races’ 😄
@dabbydude Жыл бұрын
they didn't. This is NOT from the old Ybirds! I have quite a few of their lp's (I'm old:-)), and definetely no Hey Joe.
@ronfisher5259 Жыл бұрын
@@dabbydude agree-I had four old Yardbirds LPs ( my fav was Having a Rave-up) but since then I’ve come across a lot of “live” unreleased music by a lot of 60s groups- and if they did a song live and didn’t sell it on record they didn’t have to pay royalties.

Jimi didn't write Hey Joe,he copied it....But did a pretty good job...
Billy Roberts wrote Hey Joe in 1962. It was a Johnny Cash style country /folk song. "The Leaves" ( a little known hippie band) did the first rock version of it in 1965. The psychedelic band called Love did a version that sounded much like The Leaves in 1966 and so did the Byrds. Jimi Hendrix released his version in 1967. There are many other version but those mentioned are the most significant.

I think that this version is the best. When listening to the guitar work, I don’t hear in any way shape or form of a pedal/pedals being used. I just hear GOD given talent tearing it up on a guitar. This is what it was like back in the day. I think the Stones started it with a fuzz tone on Satisfaction. I remember in school all of us guys in bands trying to beg for $$$$ from mom and dad to get one ! Lol

"Billy [William Moses] Roberts [Jr.] (b. 1936, Greenville, SC) is an American songwriter and musician credited with composing the 1960's rock standard Hey Joe, the best known version of which is by The Jimi Hendrix Experience)." the first version I remember hearing on the radio was by the Leaves. it was a great version too, recorded in 1965, then re-recorded as a single in '66. The Standells did it, too.

@Mr22thou4 жыл бұрын
I'm inclined to agree. I understand why they still use the name and I don't blame them at all. And, as good as it is it just isn't "The Yardbirds." Page and Plant make Led Zeppelin but McCarty and Dreja do not make the Yardbirds. Even if Clapton or Beck were on guitar, it wouldn't be the same. glad it was uploaded tho. Thanks a lot.

Agreed, it's great. But there's been 101 incarnations of the Yardbirds over time (1963 - 2015). Look it up. You're comparing from numerously different players, so this rendition is merely a slice in time of certain players present on the stage that night!!! -- NOT REALLY a group called "The Yardbirds". A lot of bands change members and keep the name until barely anything is left of who we once knew. I think of The Yardbirds as just an infamous vessel whose liquids are constantly changing.

the Yardbirds are still active as a legends revival band and it would have been cool for them to expand a bit. Hey Joe was a nice addition. by the time 2010-2015, they should have been trying out all kinds of things to fill out their own catalogue. Cream Sunshine Of Your Love, T.rex Bang A Gong, Beatles Yer Blues. no matter the legacy, there's no point in just rolling through a 45 year old oldies routine. I feel like these guys could today could work The Doors LA Woman in a killer updated long Jam.

strange, I was going to use Beethoven as an example of simple music that is amazingly wonderful. It doesnt have to be complicated and cluttered up to be great. examples of simple and great songs; Moonlight Sonata, Hey Jude, Something (Beatles), Smells Like Teen Spirit, Communication Breakdown, Canon in D, Greensleeves, Walking in the Air, Fur Elise, Just Like Heaven... there are so many songs that are wonderful and simple. Some songs are pure and the sum of the instuments merely serve the song
