Mooring operation. //Mooring and berthing a giant ship..// Berthing a ship.
In this Video you will see full mooring operation LIVE..
Welcome to sailingshark channel with me on Container ship. In this video i will show you exactly how a ship get berthed and how we make our ship tied in jetty.All ships, including cargo ship get berthed similarly using mooring ropes.Keeping ship alongside might get tough sometimes. we need a full trained crew to get a ship berth because its not easy operation. SAfety is our first priority.
Life in merchant Navy is hard and tough and emergencies can come without notice so we have to keep ourselves ready to tackle in in very trained way.
For those who are new to the channel - I am Bimlesh kumar Singh (SailingShark) a Chief officer sailing on the container ships through the world & vlogging my journey along . So don't forget to Subscribe to my channel & hit that bell notification 🔔

I am a what we call a Line handler at our port, longshoremen, or whichever you choose to call us. I am also part of the safety committee for our port. This video is greatly done, it definitely shows a different side that we don't see from the dock side of the mooring operations.

Nice video, very informative. One thing I've observed in your video, the jetty crew worn life vest but ship's crew in normal boiler suit. Kya mooring station par life jacket/life vest pahanane par khatre ka chance badh jata hai.

Good video, nicely explained, but I could see you were still using a stopper rope. Your captain obviously hasn't heard of the GroundGrab A big leap forward in crew safety 👍

I agree groungrab. I have been using it for ages now, it's brilliant
@jamesmurney1374
@jamesmurney1374 2 жыл бұрын
How big of a size does the GroundGrab come in? For a ship sized line you need 1.5" (38mm) to 2"(50mm) and rated to probably 40T. Truly curious, never heard of it before and my internet search did give much detail. Stoppers, while a pain to use are a tried and true method.
@littleboatcaptain6962
@littleboatcaptain6962 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmurney1374 hi there the GroundGrab takes over 50 minutes in rope size I don't think I can put the website up ,I think it will delete the message, but I will try It starts with the usual 3ws then GroundGrab then the dot ,the UK. Give that a try 👍
@SailingSharkSS
@SailingSharkSS 2 жыл бұрын
ya its there, but as a general practice by crew they still feels comfortable in using rope stoppers.

Nicely explained but not enough details - I looked to see more in detail about the lines spread on deck, the distance from vessel to jetty and how you estimate the length of the rope of necessary, when the rope is already given and inside the water - how you estimate if it's necessary to let go a little more length so you can have like 4 5 rolls on the tension drum and also it would be nice for beginner to be explained how you estimate on how much to continue to tighten the rope, different type of winches as well, different knots and many other things.
@SailingSharkSS
@SailingSharkSS 2 жыл бұрын
Dear length of the mooring is standard that supplied but how much you need to spread is just to keep it enough to get to the mooring man and if required you can slack from the mooring winches any way thanks for the valuable comment.

First of all this type of situation is very rare but in any case if such situation develops we have thrusters and engine to control the ship. If needed we can ask for tugs watch this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6ncnJhqj9Wmhs0
