Still a big part of my life Great physical toy that can be enjoyed by the young and the old Because it requires the brain to keep rethinking tracks and endless set ups,its a real broad spectrum that keeps you interested.

My long-lasting story with Scalextric started when I was maybe 5 yo. It was the end of the sixties and my father had a set with a Jaguar D and a red car that I guess was a Ferrari. In the nineties I became father as well and decided to renew this passion for my son. I bought a simple oval with 2 F1 cars a Ferrari and a fantastic Ford Riello. I then added a few tracks. He was not very fond and I gave it to a friend. I now regrets. Thank you for sharing this video.

I remember when I was 12 and 13 (1971/2) there was one boy in my class at school who everyone wanted to play with. The reason - he had a Scalextric!

Amazing toy for the times but I guess when you've got Gran Turismo in VR with force feedback wheels , it's hard to live your motorsport dreams through some plastic track and hand controllers. For me it was one of those 'always wanted' toys but we didn't get a set until relatively late in the 80s and computer games, skateboards and the potential lure of women ensured my interest in it was fairly brief. 5 years earlier and I'd have probably been on it all day.

I still love scalextric but that's an interesting line to finish on saying that many companies have tried to copy scalextric with little success, Carrera doesn't get a mention, yes its expensive but it's in a league of it's own in terms of quality materials and build, it's also the worlds largest manufacturers of slot car racing. But far too expensive

Irony: The narrator talks about the misspelling of Porsche but is entirely oblivious of the fact that he misspronounces Porsche every single time (the "e" is NOT silent!).

35:25 Nonsense, the Bentley and Alfa Romeo from 'The Power And The Glory' range went on to become collectible in their own right and I don't think they affected the value of the original releases at all.

Jeez! No wonder the company floundered! If that uninspiring loon with the comb over was in charge?! Who the hell wants to race Mini Metros lol or trucks, plastic turtles on skateboards or for God's sake, HORSES!? - on plastic trolleys! hahaha! Concentrate on it being mini reality, like with the trains, and you're entering the realm of the user. I have seen amazing tracks, lovingly detailed, with handmade buildings, sections of track sprayed sand colour to replicate dirt tracks for rallying or snow courses. The company became clueless as to what the toy actually was and lurched from one gimmick to the next. They should have made two sorts of cars and track only. Racing for the F1 cars and Rallying. The cars also ran too high off the track, with the front wheels often not touching the circuit, hand throttles overheated, motors were not powerful enough, tyres not grippy enough, magnets came too late. So many mistakes. Today's cars are so much better. Done by the Chinese lol Don't know whether to laugh or cry at that. And with anything 'collectable', its only of value if there are enough people prepared to part with money for it, or outbid others. If there aren't, it becomes worthless. If youngsters today have no interest in the car/model train set because they were not bought one or introduced to it by dad, then people in the future really couldn't give a monkeys about it, because they didn't play with them as a child.

The narrator is f... annoying, he finishes every of his sentence with a remark about the collectibility of this model and the higher value of that model. And like rytmman69uk wrote with a guy like Richard Lion (the director with hair cut from the '60) no wonder Scalextric went bankrupt.
