Moradin seems heavily inspired by Tolkein's Aule. Aule was one of the original Vala (like Archangels) of Eru Iluvatar (the creator of all .. God basically). Aule was known as the Smith of the Valar much like the Greek Hephaestus or Roman Vulcan. When Eru Iluvatar set out to create mortal beings (beings that could die, but didn't have a necessarily have limited life span) he wanted the Elves to be the first born race of Arda. But, Aule wanting to create his own race of beings that he could care for and would care for him back forged 7 beings out of rock and stone and breathed life into them. However, only Eru Iluvatar could control the "fire of life" and as such Aule's creations were only an extension of his own will and had no will of their own. When Eru Iluvatar found out what Aule did, he was quite angry. To show his regret, Aule went to destroy his creations. But, Eru Iluvatar showed mercy on these beings as he saw their fear when Aule was about to destroy them. He made them fully conscience and gave them free will but only after he made put them into a deep sleep only to awaken after the Elves were created. Thus, the Elves could still become the first born race of Arda. These 7 beings became the founders of the Dwarven houses of which Durin the First was one (Thorin Oakenshield's people were descendants of Durin I)

Before the first gods were gods (had steady worship, fixed domains, et cetera), they were basically primordials, that didn't get along with the other primordials.
@brianroberts7833 жыл бұрын
I think it's more that once the gods existed they exist outside time, so even though there is a definite point at which a god comes into existence, being outside time after that they have access to all of time. Essentially once they exist, they always did.

Aside from his wife, a good number of the other dwarven deities are his direct children. At least, as far as I know, this is mostly knowledge based off of Marthammor Duin being called the youngest of Moradin's children and a number of the other dwarven deities being called his siblings in the wiki entries for him.

I'm running a dwarf character who cast himself out of his clan because his progenitors were evil and he didn't want to follow in their footsteps. His clan didn't help him (what he didn't realize was that they were testing him to see if he would stay on the right path without incident.) He's a cleric of Moradin, but because he's still young for a dwarf, he has no idea how to worship him properly, and every time something goes wrong, he thinks he's out of favor with Moradin. What he doesn't realize is that the fact that his spells function properly proves that he is still in good standing.
@Disciple89ify5 жыл бұрын
Ironically you mentioned dwarves creating gnomes but in Dragonlance it is the other way around. The gnomes were created by Reorx who is the Dragonlance equivalent of Moradin. The gnomes were exposed to the chaos gem and those that were very industrious became dwarves and those that were really curious became Kender.

So this will be a big ole tangent but here we go. Near the end of the episode, you mentioned Ao, the DnD version of a supreme being. I was familiar with him and had heard his name in passing but never knew much about him. So I went to the forgotten realm wiki page for him after a quick read he seems to be the god of divinity itself, constructing and enforcing the rules of godhood. At one portion when it alluded to his position to him in the grand scale it said first that he was the overgod. Then it said that he may serve someone called the luminous being. When you go to his Wiki page it speaks sparsely about them saying but one paragraph. "The luminous being was a mysterious entity that existed beyond the normal cosmology, at the beginning and the end of time simultaneously, yet outside time and space proper.' " This isn't a great wealth of information and so I looked deeper I happened upon a vs wiki which had greater knowledge on this mysterious being who quote "is a being beyond all realities and even existence itself, they are charged with the creation and destruction of universes, acting in both harsh and kind ways, being both cold and forgiving at the same time. Little was known of their entity or appearance, and even the greatest of over god, Ao, seemed to bend to their every whim, carrying out their will with obedience," Upon even further investigation it seemed that many online held the theory that this being was, in fact, the dm. Influencing thing in the macrocosm to minute detail. This leads me to the actual point of this entire tangent which is, in fact, a campaign idea. What if in what was seemingly a generic campaign turned into a meta mess in which Ao turned against the luminous being distorting things in the campaign without your permisson. It becomes this battle against this supreme being were the dm attempts to help out the players in a world that he's been cut off from. You would be surprised as the one singular orc turns into 6 storm giants to your befuddlement. All in all you could seriously fuck with the players and characters as you the dm have direct interaction with them tryig to lead them through to safety but only having limited power .
