Aside from what you've just said, another moral that can apply to this episode is the following; never let silly grudges get in the way of what matters. If you let things like business or family rivalries cloud your thinking, it will only destroy the happiness of others; just like what happened with Grand Pear and his daughter

That's one of the many things i like about the episode, that the lessons from it teach us about things like trading one family for another or how keeping secrets can have a terrible aftermath on the people you care about, or how the certain decisions you make in the past can lead too a life of misery, remorse and regret, and etc.

1:02 I withhold my emotions from people. Mostly my mom because she....just doesn't get it. I cant control my emotions. I haven't been able to since middle school. But she treats it like I let people rile me up. And that makes me feel weak and have no hope of eventually gaining control back... me and her have drifted apart. I'm closer to my friends and therapist because they understand that you can't always control your emotions. Because of that I don't tell her about my emotions. Because she's just going to say THAT BULLSHIT ABOUT HOW ONLY I CONTROL MY OWN GOD DAMN EMOTIONS!

It reminds me of alot of coming out stories or the foolish bottling up of family secrets and never getting to forgive or say sorry before passing away. It can be easy to think feeling like this is a sign of weakness and as a grown up all you can do is suffer the consequences rather than try to fix things or letting the past dictate present action. I feel like this can also stem from taking things for granted, or assuming because someone doesn't say they'd like to be thanked that you don't do it. But in a world where being emotional or expression is shamed particularly for men , checking in with someone who appears pretty happy might be important.

Also what's really sad, her father abandoning her out of his selfish pride, that's the last memory she ever had of him when she passed on.

Yeah. Just...seriously? I don't know if I could forgive someone who did that to me.

I don't share my feelings with my family if I can help it. Because well. I've unfortunately accepted that my mother will not understand my own emotional state. She'll blame my anger on me "letting them get to me" and say the phrase I can't stand to hear "only you control your emotions" WITCH I CALL BULLSHIT ON! I tend to avoid talking about my feelings to people I don't trust not to make the emotions worse. I'll reach out to people who I DO trust to lessen that emotion. Whether it's anger or sorrow.

Hate is never a good thing to hold on to. Don't let an argument be the last time you ever see your family again. It certainly was for Grand Pear, and that's a mistake he'll have to live with the rest of his life, knowing that it's too late to make amends.

That's why I at least give myself time before deciding if that person is worth staying tied to. My mom and I had a huge fight over a very personal matter. And while I still love her and still value our relationship? I decided that I need to distance us a bit.

This was very well said, Brawny. I was also glad to wake up to this video. The Perfect Pear definitely shows how communication is key. Thank you.

I'm glad you were careful to define your terms when referring to love. Too many define love as approval, celebration, or good feelings. Love is a willingness to suffer. Marriage is a slow and painful death to your own interests in order to benefit someone else. Relationships are two people willing to suffer with each other in order to grow through the process. Feelings have their time and place, but it's very depressing to see too many people define their relationship with their families, friends, and even spouses as something to leave behind when it becomes difficult. I'm glad there are still shows willing to show the ugly side of relationships can be that much more beautiful than hollywood's.

This...this hits too deep to home... Having to make a big decision for the betterment and happiness of myself & my life. While not the full extent of what happened with Pear Butter & Bright Mac, but the overall thought is there.

*Looks at the ashes of some bridges that burned... and the damage done to the foundations of those bridges... and the razed ground where part of those foundations once stood.* Hah. Yeah. Would that all parents were reasonable, and would that all friends could accept criticism without deflecting to your flaws and dismissing their own hypocrisy and... And... yeah. I've got a LOT of bitterness regarding burned bridges and how communication and trust are key. This is an excellent episode, and a good moral to go with it.

This might be especially important in regards to the Trump/Biden debate. Namely one side of the family would follow Trump whereas the other side would agree with Biden. And in most cases, it's the parents and the offspring.
