This is truly a magnificent structure. There are places far larger and more developed than Morant Bay that don't even have a structure this pristine or to this magintude. St. Thomas is truly getting the deluxe treatment that other parishes would love. You love to see it. Really looking forward to seeing the final result. Hanover is another oft forgotten parish, usually just used as a tourism extension for both Montego Bay and Negril. I kinda feel bad for the parish. I hope Hanover's urban centre is just as nice as this one, and gives it an economic identity of its own.

Yet some people say nothing not going on smh...Those people need to stop look hand outs, go get themselves trained and upskilled and get ready for developments to come. You asked some of them "What can you do ? What are you skilled in? All we hear is Crickets. Rome was NOT built in a day. While Rome is being built, get on board and make yourself relevant, so you don't miss out.

Good development no one can complain about that, however, if u provide a billion jobs that is not able to provide a sustainable income/ cost of living then it means zero. Jamaica physically infrastructure is being developed roads new town center etc but poor people has only gotten worse. Which means it’s trickle down economics that may never reach the poor while others enjoy these developments.
@jayham9529
@jayham9529 11 күн бұрын
@ The same persons you call the “poor” can get retrained or up skilled; this is a not an over night thing it will take time; but one can’t keep talking about the poor. What is stopping the poor from let’s say going to Heart and get a skill while getting compensation. I would have hoped to hear this institution saying they have to be turning back applications. Unfortunately that is not the case. While we will not be able to solve All for every single person issues, no economy/ country can. However; if more able persons at least try, then the ones that truly needs it most will be less; of which we can cater to those persons. Not in perpetuity; but providing them too a road map to better themselves. It’s not a one sided affair; governments have their role to play and we the people do as well. NCU will be located over the Urban Center… let’s wager if it will be bursting at it seams with applications. I hope it will be! It took generations to fall in this mess we are in today; sadly it may take same to get out; but step by step; bit by bit ; all hands on deck; it can be done .

@ tell us what you think of that person who JC Hutchinson sent on farm work; he came back saying it’s was hard and now basically saying “ government not doing anything and nothing not going on” How do we categorize this person? What next do you do for a person like this? Give him weekly handout’s?
@Dilshan21180
@Dilshan21180 11 күн бұрын
@ of course not, he got an opportunity and failed to make use of it; especially since he might have waisted his time in school etc. I know Jamaicans are not trying as hard as they should. But I am saying, the government has failed!!! we cannot and we should never only look at isolated situations. The government responsibility is for all Jamaicans not just a few like the example you mention. If a government means the people any good they MUST create policies and laws that simultaneously benefits all Jamaicans. If not they are only putting on bandaid on an amputated leg while they improve the standard of living for their family.

Very thorough overview! Interesting to see it take shape over time. Jamaica as an independent country is relatively young (60+y) but the cultural entity evolved into today's Jamaica is centuries old. So many of JA's major towns were laid out a long time ago before cars were common (and for smaller populations too). If you look at Downtown's grid of narrow streets vs New Kingston you can easily tell which one wasn't planned with cars in mind. Many would benefit from something like the MBUC to relieve congestion in the historic towns. I know Port Antonio is getting Boundbrook and something was being planned for Falmouth too.

This is great for Morant bay, but there are a few things I like to point out. First, I noticed that this area is prone to flooding. The drainage that they build on the outskirt, which is now covered by a sidewalk, should have extended all the way out to the bridge. Second, too many fast food, they should at least replace one with Island grill or some type of restaurant that you can get authentic Jamaican food. I hope in the future that they will keep expanding and adding new businesses to the area.

Not possible to be ready by that time January 2025. It appears there is plenty of work left as of your coverage date🤔 also to your question of other Parish having a Urban development center ,i would say base on population and proximity to other located centers. However the scale of the project for othe Parish doesn't have to be at the same size but includes necessary government agencies for business in that jurisdiction.

@droneviewja Just to be clear on my objections. Urban centres should be dense, dynamic spaces where people gather together to live, work, do business and have fun. Ideally, it's made for walking and designed with organic expansion in mind so other businesses can spring up to satisfy demand for goods and services. People, should go to work, meet up for drinks, or party, and then walk or take a short ride home. You don't do this with a gated city centre.

@@droneviewja Because you are putting your urban centre behind a gated facility thereby constraining it's dynamism and possibility for growth. It's terrible urban design. So credit to the JLP government of 1960s with development plans for the network of highways and those plans are in the national archive in Spanish Town unfortunately the change of government saw those plans ditched in favor of adopting a new alien😂 ideology called democratic socialism. Credit to Robert lightbourne whose vision which led to the Goodyear factory at this present location. The.current PNP senator "crooked eye" Lambert Brown is the principal culprit which caused the closure of the factory which cause severe economic dislocation in the parish and the hardship since then for the good people of St Thomas 《 Now St Holness)

If no government cannot provide; nation health insurance for all Jamaicans, significantly improve education with currently less than more than half population fail to accomplish 5 cxc subjects. @ just to name a few things the government MUST do to improve the standard of living for all Jamaicans; 1, create a national health insurance make it mandatory for all Jamaicans to have health insurance. 2, use technology in crime fighting for example ensure all on duty police wear body cameras (audio and visual) also incorporates cameras in high crime area and create mobile police stations. 3, start holding parents especially mothers and girlfriends/ wife accountable for harboring criminals, for example it is well known and accepted that most of the delinquent people are 25 years or younger; while statistics also shows that most people without their own place of residence are also under 25 therefore, these parents and girlfriends/ wife are fully aware that these young men are involved in wrongdoings. How can you be driving cars, “braafing” etc without a for job etc. That’s just a few of what needs to be done.. What’s your take?
