And the unfathomable reach of Azagthoth's rites of sonic creation, for which only a talented soul could play the compère part, regarding the 6 or 7 strings, and that was the late Mr Richard Brunelle, RIP. Erik Rutan is another one whose name must also be inscribed on the final slab. Of course DV made MA - to me he seems the well-driven self-manager and spokesman for the group, always able to combine extreme performance and impeccable PR image. When Altars came out i was definitely amidst those who got an early copy, but I was already 26, not a teen, so i guess i could get into MA just for the music and not for the hype.

Whenever I play God Emptiness it indicates that how slow and devouring that riff is, Azagtoth and Rutan are both monsters when it comes to their guitar tone. David will always sound like Satan got drunk before performing.

Vincent is cool but one thing that bothered me is they played Bil Ur Sag around 09-14 touring cycles and he didn't bother learning any of the Akkadian, just growling through those parts. Steve is a monster of a vocalist, a great guy and has no problem playing stuff from the Vincent records. Jared Anderson was killer too... RIP.

I was there. Trey complained on the microphone the crowd was dead and they should wake the hell up cause nobody was playing in the festival like they did. He was right. It was by far the best show of the festival that year. Erik Rutan was insane there.

This being one of their slower songs, the guitarwork is kind of simple. But Morbid Angel are actually THE blueprint of Death Metal. Check out Altars of Madness, Blessed are The Sick (albums with almost 20 years that still do not sound dated today), or Formulas Fatal to the Flesh, and then tell me if you still find their guitar work boring.
