Although pete Sandoval is a personal friend of mine since' unknown death' days before terrorizer I respect his abilities, my opinion is that death metal shouldn't have blast beats at all, either way pete revaluationized it when morbid angel tried it out on morbid fits great!, but when I got a copy of this demo Wayne hartsell was the shit +it is one of my favorites demos in death metal, Skank beat at its best ( thats what it was called back in the day)😈
@gouortenklif68617 жыл бұрын
The blast beat thing is interesting because I can't think of a lot of death metal without them. How did you come to hold that opinion? One thing I personally dislike is the machine gun double bass that was overused, particularly in and after the 90's.

Gouortenklif. Ok if I am going to talk about Pete Sandoval I'll give you extras, having been amongs them back in DAM memory lane in circa 85,unkown death was Jessy's pintado R.I.P first metal band pure slow heavy death Metal i was there at the Right time right place .perfect decade for Metal genres was never important or even though about to us there WAS no such thing , I was in L. A's DARKNESS death metal but that's another story, I do remember Jessy explaining to me that a anonymous st kid like 10yr old was telling him that he knew about his neighbor drummer was to present him self so this kid brought him Over short guy with a short curly hair lol! fuck we are talking major stuff here . ENTER pete Sandoval with 5 piece tama grey drum set fit for a miggit to play on IT was hilarious but not hilarious when He took the throne sat down played and played dynamics unheard of all witnessed something bizzar with ONE pedal I don't remember his replacement drummers name cuz after that he was never to be seen again, at that time unknown death did do gig's with us and others bands same token Terrorizer was to surface with better riffs different beat Grind core, pete Revaluationized it with morbid angel respectfuly and honestly I don't think grindbeats should be the norm of the death metal canon it was doing great with out it ,this time it did work perfect with terrorizer who were heavily Influenced by napalm death, repulsion, master, Death,m angel, carcass Jessy was all ready buddy's with Chuck and tray cuz of the underground tape trading communication,david Vincent came down to LA for the downfall classic recording morbid A asked if pete was to play with them with the promise of a flight ticket, new drum Set, tours and the new family member, Jessy incoraged him to do the right thing an established band of the ancient one's, Jessy was thinking about the same line but with napalm death, he could of done more early stuff but had visa problems in the east coast again that's another story came back to Cali for proper entrance visas other band S were to follow that formula roult like bands nausea and majesty ,double bass pedals does work but not all the time straight threw a track pete knew as I remember use it on only on one bass drum, morbid angel wanted it to be like that with double bass drums.Pete was born for this original style of drumming Effortlessly . LA and Florida scene must of of inpatiently waiting for the final results I've heard of the alters of madness reh demo 's and I was in awe with it for when that record came out it was played over and over again by many bands including me trying to figure it out on any genre now of such importance????so what!?! it is what it is!like some drummers 'have it' many DONT!!pete was never a hothead he is a down to earth brutaly honest man there for all theses 1,2,3 who came first B.S dosent matter to some of us that WERE there all that double bass now is like I gotta be and do more than the last guy it's a macho silly thing selfish amateur way of thinking and again for me it takes away good ideas goning the wrong direction not consentratin on putting out GOOD death metal records thats why now it does not have that individual thought patterns Chuck WAS right on it And never used it for DEATH you gotta respect that for if it was not true Death would of never been mention on anybodys list. The Facts are in.this is the first and only time I spoke about it to all who may want to know about el commando???more like Pete the unknown soilder key ruler of it all. YOU CALLED HE CAME!! The rest is metal history of the old school. There if you want to know more ask me you found the needle in the hay stack. 😈💀👹

Thanks for taking the time to write this. Very interesting, although it was a bit of a tough read. haha I have heard about Pete having a very short time to learn how to play double bass drums and it's impressive that he pulled it off as well as he did. I hadn't heard of Darkness before and I can't seem to find any of your material online but I will definitely keep looking. Since you've been there from the beginning, I want to ask you about genre distinctions. I noticed the words "death metal" were part of your band logo. Death, grind and even black metal. Were you using these terms back then or did you have a single term for any extreme band at the time? And were you into traditional styles of metal too or was there a bit of a cultural divide between traditional and extreme?
@MiguelCruz-uv3ui7 жыл бұрын
Gouortenklif. OK, dam good question the term' brutal' that word alone was taken much more seriously back then like if you speak to a fellow METALHEAD even That term wasent used it was rarely said , A THRASHER was normal term to identify a METALHEAD it was like yeah one of us Meaning to skip over I guess genres?? Bands That were shaping it were doing it unconsciously by the day, rocker was a stoner stuff like that you know, it also was competitive LA underground VS Floridas underground. VS new York underground all around. In the sixties it was more of who was higher in the charts bizzness but that done with. Chicago another major cities had few band the ones I like were master 84 metal of znowhite with one of the first and few female singer Nicol Lee, basically death metal, thrash, punk , hardcore, crossover even straight edge, black metal, were the simple terms that I remember being used. the tide was turning enter:GRIND that term was new introduced by well you know who by now, going back for me merciful fate was not brutal enough for DARKNESS I see them like in the vein of shock metal I guess didn't care for that mix of technical metal weird 😵shit now its like Marilyn Manson dead shit was laughable for us I couldn't understand why Florida bands looked at merciful fate highly we were more into hunting down south Americans brutality pentagram Chile, volcano Chile sepultura ,slaughter lord Australia I really like was the new death metal From Brazil bands new Yorker's were trash limited it seemed to be ruled by it all the way around in those upper states back home I can give you the underground list for LA but that's not inquestion,there is a movie called los punks today punk scene well almost in the start of it some of the 80s true underground is rarely spoken of but then again thats a punk documentary well the first 15 or 20min into it their is a part were flyers were layed out one of the those flyers has the all nations center hall show we opened up for fcdn tormentor highland park necrophagia ELA,bloodcum from Huntington park Tom Arraya brothers band John arrays, Tom was there with a camera scouting out drummers lambardos 1st exit rumor was eyeing our drummer Johnny Silva, recipients of death from montabello, our logo was plain letters before I added the demons around it. Similar to death first logo possessed logo morbid angel logo I Beeft it up for the new logo I'll be cutting everything but the drums,drummer of demolition San Fernando valley DENNIS is willing to help this project We do have live and the recording will be out next coming year.

I had to take a few breaks for this OK pete was the best as far as dynamics and experience was what expected of him for the morbid ones new album alters Doubl bass drums I believe in pro minded he knew ther material it was a matter of can he pull it off I did get to see him play a regular drum set he was playing the cuts of alters trial and error that set belonged to Emilio marquiez :nocturnal fear, brainstorm,brujeria,assessino now in possessed. I remember pete came to visit the LA scene one of the first times was surprisingly more leatherd out death metal lookwith upside down crosses Pentagram necklesses and demon tattoos was respected we all hanged out getting drunk n shit, the word blast never was thout out yet.grind was the new word definition.skank was the word WE used ala Dave lambardo beat his slayer intros dynamics was what many bands used underground leaders of LA all proud coming from us. Extreme that word belonged to believe it or not was to the glam fags, for it sounded like I want attention stupid bands like wasp, merciful fate,slayer from Texas,ICON,motley crue impaler,stryper,gimmicks bands tooooo much gravy not enough meat wimp shit, till extreme Resurrected again but by that time their was an ocean of bands started to say that word It got dangerously seriously our of hand when mayham went mad but they proved it in Viking country yeah extreme is the one genre used today .nd more here to clear the table and set the record straight. Good questions.

Holy shit I love the amount of groove there is on this. That being said nothing beats sandoval's drumming. Vincents vocals are also exponentially better than the LP version.

That would be Wayne Hartsell that was on drums.

Welllll!!!!!!!!!!!!! Helllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not know that "The Feet" was not their first drummer. I woild like to know what other if any,bands that he played for cause in my books THIS GUY!!! is a fucking MONSTER PIONEER of the drumming genre!!!! This recording is so brutal and raw,i just fucking LOVE IT!!!!!Show the HORNS,and don't forget to get your tickets for the Donna Summers reunion tour!!!! ADMIT IT!!!! For a secong there your pulse quickend at the thought that I was gonna annouce a Morbid concert tour,I fucking wish!!! I live in the capital city of my country and right in the middle of Toronto and Montreal, Montreal being the place where I got to see Morbid 3 tymes but the last tyme was for the HERITIC tour and the nite they played Montreal, I HATE to say it but their sound engineer must of been on glue cause man o' fucking man did their sound ever SUCK!!! I mean so loud and shitty that unless you had a set list nailed to the back of the head of the guy standtng in front of you,was the only way you could know what song was being played AND I don't give this shitty review easily because they are my over-all favorite Death Metal band of all tyme, so Carry On.....42nesss!!!!!
