Hitler learned the mistakes of Napoleon invasion of Russia was that he would attack three main large army to invade Soviet Union in three main strategic goal of the offensive in three important strategic city needs to be captured: North (Lenningrad), Middle (Moscow), and South (Stalingrad). The reason was because to make sure the German’s flank is secured not like how Napoleon’s army just attacking one city with one huge army and leaving a large gap that the enemy would just encircled army and cutting the supply. Thinking that conquering a one important city would mean surrender. However, the only mistakes that Hitler didn’t really worried or concern that he and Napoleon making the exact same mistakes when invade Russia or the Soviet Union was the lack of supply and resources. Most importantly was the lack of knowledge of the Russian landscape. A lot of myth and misconceptions about why many nation failed to invade Russia was infamous Russian Winter, but that’s not actually the main reasons why invading Russia is impossible. But the main reason why many nation failed to invade Russia was the lack of foresight of the Russian landscape. Even if invading Russia in the middle of the summer, that too will be a big mistake and a bit difficult to invade than the winter. Apart from the landscape was the weather. In the summer, especially when its raining for instance, turning most of the Russian land into heavy mud that can cause transport of supplies and troops to moved very slowly towards to the heartland of Russia. Most of people would say like why did the Mongols or the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth manage to invade Russia? Well Russia at that time weren’t that huge or that strong nation. Plus both of Mongol and Polish-Lithuanian who lived and learn the knowledge the land of the Rus (modern border day Russia). Of course they successfully invade and occupy for a short while until the people of the Rus who don’t like the invader occupation, revolted and eventually they managed to kicked out of the invader and liberate their homeland. In conclusion invading Russia will be impossible unless they know the knowledge of the Russian landscape, invading Russia with a large army, attacking and taken a huge part of the Russian land (not attacking small parts of the Russian land and take the capital), secure the flanks, and most importantly needed a large of supply to invade a large nation that there border can stretch from Europe to Asia.

The Battle of Karansebes whether or not its exist nor the drunk Austrian soldiers did the fire exchange on their men. Why? Some sources during the battle at that time can be exaggerated to say at least and the description of that battle can be different from other sources that you find.

The main causes of famine during The Great Leap Forward is the collectivization, pest eating rice grain (rats, locusts, and other small animals), and weather change that struck the famine and killing around 15 - 45 million people depend on different sources. This is all based on Stalin’s collectivization and his Five-Year Plan.

Another biggest screwup is the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. The assassins didn't realize that the next emperor Franz Ferdinand was planning to give rights to the people of the Balkans in Austria-Hungary, even though he disliked them. The assassins didn't know about it, not even Gavrilo Princip. All thanks to the assassination, it never happens and WW1 broke out The second screwup is the battle of the bulge where Hitler thought he could encircle the Americans as he did in the early years of ww2 with the Brits and the french. The plan backfired when the Germans pushed far into Allied lines. The lack of logistical support, fuel and supplies and exhaustion in the army slowed the offensive down gradually. Soon, the Allies exploited the weakness and quickly outflank and encircle the Germans. With the dissipation of the fog and mist, came an overwhelming Allied air superiority that resupplied their stranded troops. At this, the progress the German Army had enjoyed quickly fizzled out and soon the lines became like they were before the offensive. At this massive defeat in which Germany poured in 400,000 men, they suffered around 100,000 casualties and the Allies suffering 90,000 casualties.

Here is one. Enver Hoxha, leader of Communist Albania, had two choices on who to align with. One was the nearby Soviet Union. The other was Far away China. He chose China, and then China abandoned them. And I haven't seen anyone prominent talk about how great Hoxha was. Hoxha was in my opinion, the worst leader ever. He was not only a bad person, he was horribly incompetent.

In Mao’s defense, at the time of the sparrow campaign, ecology was an emerging science that many in the developing world did not have a firm grasp of. Like you said, China was a largely agricultural and illiterate society, so one might understand why they did something that we today with the benefit of hindsight acknowledge to be a terrible mistake. It also didn’t help that there many cases of party members in the country side lying about the maximum potential crop yield (like tell the central government that they could grow a million pounds of rice on 1 acre of land).

Will Kirkpatrick I wasn’t aware that Mao was able to conjure up two massive hurricanes that ended up destroying much of the nation’s crop yields two years in a row. It’s almost like attributing the failures and setbacks of a particular social movement to the mistakes of one person, and assuming that person has absolute control of the situation at all times, is rather erroneous.
