The plant of production of this engine was bought by Fiat Brazil and the engine is used in the FCA group equipping other cars like Jeep Renegade and most of Fiat brazilian cars. The difference is that they dont use supercharger and have options for 16v 1.8 and 1.6 litters. Here its considered a very reliable engine.

Great vid! I just had to do this myself (also shoutout to ModMini's channel) after getting my first Mini - 2006 Cooper S w/ only 43k miles and one previous owner who generously left the original window sticker in the owner's manual. Grinding noise in my SC was indeed the gears driving the water pump. And not a drop of oil. Found local SC specialist who repaired mine for about $950, including having to replace the stainless shaft the PTO gears, bearings, seals and fresh oil.

I have successfully completed three of these SC services and while satisfying when completed I found it wasn’t my favorite project. in my humble opinion you made the right choice on buying a good used Supercharger over trying to fix the original one. So many things could be “off” and you would be right back where you are today… and possibly over heated the engine in the process. That Supercharger service kit is very good. The ones I have used in the US were not that complete. I use a Locking Chain Clamp in addition to the pulley puller when removing the super charger pulley - learned that trick from Mod Mini. Nice work. Did my rear brakes this year as well. I bought the special tool to wind back in the parking brake…. Ended up using a bent needle nose pliers to rotate the piston back into the caliper. Not awful but know your options when you do the brakes. I swapped out all four corners and went with slotted and Cryo treated Stop Tech front rotors - wasn’t all that much more expensive for a better quality longer lasting rotor.

First i would of sprayed bolt breaker on the pulley area.... Next day i would of heated up the pulley (which expands metal) with a small torch and then applied the puller...it would of come off by either a blow with a hammer to the top of puller or by itself....Lesson learned...Great vid. Your channel is a very good channel, undervalued by many and you should have plenty of new subs soon.... Your funny too.

Hi, I just bought one of these cars, and I am just about to start to remove the supercharger and address some oil leaks. The car is already a John Cooper Works Version, so has the reduction pulley and other mods, the car when new it was 210 Bhp, I want to get it back to at least that, and with some other work, maybe even more. Many thanks your Video was really helpful in overcoming many questions I had before the work begins, Best regards Nigel :)

Interesting. The first step on the supercharger service should be to disconnect the battery and give all the resisters a chance to discharge so you do not set off the airbags taking the front of the car apart. Seeing all the bits and pieces involved, all I can say is "You're a better man than I, Gunga Din." Now I know exactly why I love big rear wheel drive cars with big V8s! I had a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 5.8 litre engine and the trailer towing package. Without a trailer, it was about as fast as that Mini, being a bit under 7 seconds 0-100 km/h, but on the highway it only used 7 litres per 100 km. The joy of enough torque to move a house at low revs. Nothing was difficult or fiddly with that car. Of all my cars, that was likely my favourite, despite how much I love my 1990 Volvo 240 Estate.

When doing the pulley I think the bolt you added locked the pulley to the shaft that’s why it bent. The puller should have worked and you could have used a little heat as well to help expand the pulley

Not needed at all. The ecu in a r53 is adaptive... so you never need a tune. You can even turbo swap it and it'll run 100% with out a tune... of your boosting 20 psi then you need a tune cause the factory map sensor cant handle anything over 20 psi. Hope that clears you up!!!

Een verwittigd man ...

Mooie video !!!
