Five and a alf dollar a gallon for diesel fuel !!!! Current UK diesel pump price $10.51 per gallon, although I'm not sure of the volume of the US gallon. Domestic fuel oil price $1.22 per litre. Strange that the price per barrel of oil has dropped significantly lower than last couple of years. Methinks we're now paying the price for Covid and this 'reset' thing bandied about on the airwaves.

$5.50/US Gallon for Diesel? Oh, I wish! Filled up my car this morning at the local store and paid £1.99/Litre or (1.99 x 3.79 = £7.54/US Gallon) or at today's rate of $1.21 to £1, 7.54x1.21= $9.12 per US Gallon, a LOT of money!

I have 80 acres of pine that needs thinning. Can't find anyone to do it. All the loggers want now is high production timber. They get in clear cut than leave. Fuel is so high they can't afford to do anything else. Costs the same to cut pulpwood as big wood but the market is much cheaper. Nobody wants to do it. Not only the timber industry but it is everything else too. I am 63 and have never really feared for this country as much as I do now...

Silly question: Does that machine have any kind of sensing devices that can inform the operator how much weight the bucket is holding? I mean, there's not much practical reason an excavator would have that... but Volvo put all kinds of useless shit on the dashboard of my XC-70 so why not? heh But the way those stumps are tossing that 220 around it'd be kinda interesting to see how much force is actually being applied there. Some of us nerds think about those kind of things :-)
@ryanhoward10132 жыл бұрын
Well I must be a nerd to because I would love to see a scale on the bucket just for the he'll of it
@Rickimusic2 жыл бұрын
Nope. We take the bucket size and compute volume. Then we find the weight per cubic foot of what material we may be digging. Roughly, a yard of dirt weighs 2,200 pounds.
@stephenhunter702 жыл бұрын
@@Rickimusic Yes that's right, buuut it's how much force is required to dislodge the stumps that we're interested in! Which part of which cylinder/cylinders would you connect a pressure gauge to?
@AustinSlacker2 жыл бұрын
Once upon a time I think Chris and mr. dirt perfect? (not sure about that) were "competing" while operating some huge new Volvo and a haul truck. And I thought part of the "competition" was filling up the haul truck with exactly x number of tons ... but maybe it was the truck that was giving out the weights. I donno. I'm just nerdnick enough to have some kind of banana for scale on the amount of resistance those stumps are putting up. heh

@markpashia70672 жыл бұрын
I keep forgetting that you build them different. In my area we dam a valley so even small ponds are usually plenty deep to leave the stumps in the middle. You have to stump the dam area to get to good base and you might do one side of the shallows to make dock and swimming space but much of it you can leave since they average a lot of depth on top of original ground level. Makes for a tall dam slope on the backside though. But not a lot of fall on this one, so half the depth will be dam and the other part digging and that just seems foreign to me. It is rare to "dig" a pond unless it is a really small one for cattle in a field. More of a watering hole. Those are usually just pushed up with a dozer anyway. Lot of work here but it will be nice when it is done. Beally is going to have a great place once the work is done.
