I think in this case, he said "salesman" and "salesperson", not "sales" - he probably would have gotten buzzed with "sales" since it would practically give away "commission". The first thing I thought of about "automatic things" was transmission.

About the salesperson clue, he didn’t say people, so I don’t see why that would be a violation. It’s basically a noun the way he said it. Plus, she already said people a couple of times before he gave out that clue, so she knew he was talking about people.

@boxcom5622
@boxcom5622 13 жыл бұрын
@graperonto Yes. You're right about Theresa. She did have the same subject. But that is because the subject was "people who get a commission." I know, I know, who else besides people receive a commission. : ) Since "people" is still part of the answer, it is not permitted to be given as a clue. "Agents" or "Men", "Women", "Brokers" would have been permitted since they are clues and not part of the answer.

@AustinSportsGuy Descriptive prepositional phrases, from 80's $25,000 pyramid on, caused the buzz. In your case, anyone could have a five-foot putt. If it was part of a known title, like if you were to say "The Earl of Sandwich", that would be OK (assuming it fit the subject, perhaps inventors).
@thisfirrre

Also, I'm amazed LeVar didn't get zapped for "a sales PERSON" on "PEOPLE Who Earn a Commission." For the contestant's sake I'm glad he didn't!
@onnapnewo
@onnapnewo 4 жыл бұрын
thisfirrre that’s because if the contestant had said “people,” it wouldn’t have been a correct answer. That was just one of the words in the category, much like “a.” “Commission” is the word that would have gotten the most scrutiny.

This is because the essence of the word they wanted was "commission" not the entire box which was why salesperson was acceptable. All the judges care about is the key word in the subject and at least in their eyes salesperson was not illegal to use but definitely a grey area matter but even then, because he used salesperson rather than salespeople that's probably why it wasn't scrutinized more. If he had used salespeople maybe then it would have been buzzed but again a definite grey area subject. Either way it was a close win indeed.

You may not use prepositional phrases (on the house, in the house, etc) unless it is an established title of something (like Statue OF Liberty, Scales OF Justice), you can't use parts of the words (like saying 'nut' if the category is 'things with peanuts) or synonyms of the words (or obviously use any of the words directly). You can't change the nature of the subject (for ex. if it's "Uses of a Sponge", you can't say, "i'm an absorbent tool that cleans". That would be "What a sponge might say"
