Since we made it to Olympus Coliseum, I feel the need to share a little story: A good few years back, I was involved with a few other people who were trying to make a Kingdom Hearts Abridged series. I was brought on as a writer, and ended up expanding their barebones scripts into five full-length episodes (up to Olympus Coliseum). I came up with copious amounts of original lore, planned ahead as far as Birth By Sleep, and despite the arguments and issues we had- and believe me, it got extremely ugly- I was still proud of what we had. So when the project leader got paranoid due to drama and infighting and withdrew everyone’s permissions on the Google Docs with the scripts and plans, I was deeply upset. Still, I tried to move past it, and a year and a half later I decided to ask for my stuff back. The project may have died, but there’s no reason to let my own work be lost! …I was greeted by the news that he’d passed away the previous August. He was 27. I’ll kick this LP up to you, Zach. Fun fact for this game, particularly. Apparently, Square actually put alternative scenes depending on if you do not follow the world level in order. They even made an alternative defeat for the cloud fight.

Heracles is NOT a different guy, it's the name of Hercules in Greek mythology (the original name), which is what he should be called in the Disney movie since every other character has their Greek name, not Roman.

They made a joke about that in the Hercules TV series. After a trip to Rome, Icarus decides to give all the gods Roman names, and Hades gets miffed about being called 'Pluto' because 'it's not fit for a dog'.

I always hated fighting Trickmaster. Thematically though, it's a perfect encapsulation of the madness of Wonderland! And now we reach... one of the biggest hurdles in the early game. Cerberus. He's here to demonstrate that even though you may have beaten the Heartless bosses pretty easily, the Disney bosses are *not* messing around

I absolutely love watching people play Kingdom Hearts for the first time. As I grew up playing these games. And I love that Square Enix and Disney did everything possible to try to get all original voice actors (those still alive that is) to return to the roles. And when they couldn't get the original voice, if there was a secondary actor used for other projects, they tried getting them.

It wouldn't be a Kingdom hearts game if there wasn't at least a few hurdles that stop you from strolling through. And yeah, Cerberus is just one of many dangerous foes that will put your skills to the test, but the key is to not give up. Watch their patterns, learn when to strike, and you'l conquer any foe sooner or later.

it's even worse considering, imo, the levep 3 difficulty world is easier than this one for the boss, so it's better to do that one instead of coliseum.. and that is due to cerberus being a pain 😂

@@CarlosThadeu The game does kinda nudge players toward doing the three star world before going to Olympus by making it only one hop away, while Olympus Coliseum is two Gummi routes away. It may still be intended that you do Wonderland and Olympus as your first two worlds after leaving Traverse Town, but the layout does make the three-star a natural second world to visit.

@@rmsgrey yeah, in hindsight, it makes sense, but it does feel kinda like the game is lying to you with the difficulty xD Maybe it was harder for me as a kid but I have been replaying the game to plat and at worse it was just annoying to move around with the gummi ship lol But I know how to play, evan is playing for the first time, I would def recommend deep jungle first to whoever plays the game for first time xD

@ I have mixed feelings about whether it's better to fight Cerberus first or to face the 3 star world's boss at a lower level. Knowing the game, I prefer to get the reward from the 3 star world sooner rather than later, but, particularly taking the slow-early fast-late XP curve, that boss fight can be its own brick wall...

Some tips about magic as i was always a magic user: Fire: decent damage and is long ranged and has a little homing towards the target Blizzard: out of the spells you got, highest damage. Shoots out like a shot gun and is close range Lightning, decent damage but the least damaging maguc but hits multiple targets in the area, good for crowds and close up air enemies

Ah cerberus, funny thing, when i first played this game, i didnt notice the stars showing the difficulty of a world and went to hercules first....i died a lot to Cerberus

In my first playthrough I went here after Wonderland and I *still* died a lot to Cerberus (and a couple of the regular fights before him). I'd say the best thing to do is get the Cure magic first before coming here, but considering how hard the boss in the next world is, you're gonna want all the EXP you can get

The irony of the Wonderland boss fight, the boss is realistically only as tall as Donald. James Woods as Hades is the only acceptable Hades.

If you need to go back to Wonderland for cleanup this should help. Clear the enemies, and head to the faucet, and turn it, so that the pot turns into a portal. Go into the portal of the pot. Grab the treasure chest, and head into the Bizarre Room (in the original position). There should be an episode dedicated to clean up, meaning getting everything you couldn't the first time around. And since you picked sword, there is a way to block attacks. Problem? You won't learn this until level 36. Now then, what kind of coke were they drinking when they thought: "Hey, let's recolor Trickmaster pink and purple." It ruined the theme since in the original Trickmaster's faces were red and black to match the card suit colors. As for Olympus Coliseum, you have to go through this level... 6 times. 4 if you decide to tackle two super bosses in one visit. More if you take certain challenges. And it makes sense to learn the Thunder Spell at Olympus. Also if you lose the fight with Cloud, Phil will come in with a towel but Hades stops him. Next time, will Sora beat Cerberus?

As always you are free to play how you want, however, pro tip: prioritize giving Sora as much AP as possible, he will learn far and away the most abilities out of anyone else in the game. Similarly, whenever you come across permanent stat increasing items, don’t bother giving them to your party, just feed them to Sora. You’re playing on Standard so if you really want to or you just pity them, you can give them to Donald or Goofy, but on Proud mode you’d absolutely want to have Sora hoard them all since if he dies it’s game over, but if your party dies they’ll just come back. Super cool fun fact: the field and battle themes for Olympus Coliseum were actually played at the real Tokyo Olympics in 2021! It is entirely possible to beat Cerberus at this point in the game, however you will need to (pardon the phrase) git gud. Study his patterns, know when best to make a move and when to back off, learn to block in addition to dodging, and Ali please show him how shortcuts work so he’s not scrolling through three submenus in the middle of combat. I believe in you Evan! If I did it as a kid you can do it as an adult!

FYI, hitting continue when you die doesn't punish you at all. It loads a checkpoint (remember those?) by either loading the point at which you last stepped onto a save point and saved or the point at which you last stepped into a new room without immediately triggering a cutscene, whichever happened last. For example, here in Olympus Coliseum, it would've loaded the point at which you stepped onto that save point and saved since the last time you did that was after the last time you stepped through a doorway without immediately triggering a cutscene. (So, if you were afraid it would immediately throw you back into the fight with Cerberus, don't worry. It won't do that. Stepping through that doorway immediately triggered a cutscene with no time for you to walk around before the boss showed uo.) On the flip side, had you died to that boss in Traverse Town (the one in the 3rd District), hitting continue would've loaded you at the point just after you stepped into the 3rd District. The cutscene that plays in the 3rd District didn't start until you'd taken a few steps into the area***. Loading a save here WOULD'VE BEEN DETRIMENTAL because your last save probably would've been in the 1st District, meaning you'd lose any experience you gained while fighting enemies in the 2nd District (and potentially the Waterway if you wandered that way before going to the 3rd District). Hitting continue also gives you back all your items that you used between the checkpoint the game loaded and the point at which you died. THERE IS ONE EXCEPTION TO THIS (which seems to be a dev oversight more than anything else): Had you died to any of the waves BEFORE the Cerberus boss you're currently fighting (meaning this exception DOES NOT apply to the boss you're currently fighting), the game does not technically kill you, and the continue screen you saw at the end of this episode does not trigger. Instead, you simply lose the tournament and are immediately loaded back into the lobby to try again. This DOES (probably unintentionally on the dev's part) use up your items. That is the only exception to the rule. ***A bit more on the thing I put three asterisks by above: This is one of the many ways the game forgives for dying. The devs know certain parts of the game are difficult and try to mitigate it in various ways. Another way they do this: if Sora is out of items and picks one up in combat, the item is immediately available in the Item menu that you can access in combat. Another way: the primary way to recharge MP is by hitting enemies. Since bosses are typically by themselves, they give back more MP when you hit them than normal enemies do. Additionally, if a boss DOES spawn normal enemies during the fight, those enemies will also give a larger amount of MP back than normal.

I first began play this saga 3 years ago; I had already seen multiple streamers complete it and videos on the lore so was already an expert in the story just wanted to play for the accomplishment. And since I had no patience to play everygame twice, my first playthrough was on max difficulty and boy it was hell. Every world took me between 3-5 hours either for being lost or having to redo every boss fight like 8 times. Already finish it and defeted all but the last 2 superbosses. Great game but is comical how easy Evan is having it, he would lose his mind with Proud mode.

Giving up magic at the start doesn't actually make your magic spells worse or anything. It just dictates in what order you get things on your level-ups.

Choosing magic at the start gives you more mp and in this game your spells power is partially calculated using your max mp.

27:35 yes they are the same guy but it seems you are aware Heracles is what Hercules should have been called in the disney movie they just decided to use former because it sounded better. Hercules and Heracles share the same story and core characteristics, their interpretations only differ slightly in terms of cultural context, emphasis on themes, and the values they represent in Greek and Roman society. So yeah I would count them as basically the same. Heracles just like with the Greek gods Zeus/Jupiter, Hera/Juno, Poseidon/Neptune etc. (funny enough Apollo just stayed Apollo in Rome) is just copy and pasted for Roman interests at the time very little was changed in the transfer.

Heracles is the Greek version of the hero, named for the glory of Hera in a vain attempt to get her to not hate him as one of Zeus' many bastard children. Hercules is the Roman version. The Disney movie calling Hercules is actually incorrect.

By the way, yes, Cerberus is arguably the hardest fight for everyone at this point in the game. Everyone I've seen struggles with him on their first playthrough. It doesn't help that he never lets up his attacks. You'll probably spend most of your time dodging rather than attacking. Chip damage is okay in this game. So long as you survive, it doesn't really matter how you take down the boss, does it?

Trickmaster is another bad recolor. In the original game, he's red and black. You know, like playing cards. In Final Mix, he's pink and purple. Like Guard Armor wasn't. And Herakles and Hercules are the same character. Herakles is his Greek name and Hercules is his Latin name. So really, since all the other characters in the movie use their Greek names...
