Don't have a layout, but, enjoy watching these puzzle videos. Different take on railfanning with model trains.

This is a lot of fun to watch. The possibilities are endless. I have a crazy track plan on my little layout that requires a lot of extra switching moves. Thanks for taking the time to make the video series.

Both of these were great. Every once in awhile make another situation puzzle and post it. They make for interesting viewing.

Thanks for the idea. I'll do just that. Cheers, Kevin.

I love shunting/switching layouts, you do great work in editing it and showing all moves in top down view, very enjoyable. Would like to see more. :)

Brian, thank you very much for the compliments and feedback. I'll do some more of these in the future, but have a few different videos I'm working on next. Cheers, Kevin.

I've been putting off building a layout because I plan on moving. But, a switching puzzle I can keep everything in a box and set up and take down at any time. Then I can get some of my trains out of storage and run them.

Dave, sounds like a great idea. Cheers, Kevin.

I made a N Scale Inglehook using KATO track. I also created scenery and it is a permanent layout. It is 50" X 18". I also built some buildings and road bed so like your imagination my rules address some restrictions. I use a Altas RS3 as the switcher and nine freight cars of various types and lengths. So that makes it more challenging. My longest sidings holds 3 to 4 cars depending on their length. The layout fits nicely in a corner of one of my rooms and I play with it regularly.

Sounds like you have a really nice set up. Glad you're enjoying it and running it regularly. Cheers, Kevin.

After years of making layouts I now know that I don't want to spend space and time on anything other that the yard and a loop to bring in trains and send them off Your two videos on this and my game design skills have me hot to do it now more than ever My biggest things to take care of are changing the couplers on my cars and converting my two switchers to DCC If you know anyone that can do that for a price I would be happy to put them to work James
@Modeltrains4 жыл бұрын
James, thank you for the feedback. Glad I could light a spark in you to get back to trains. Switching couplers really isn't that hard, I use Kadee metal #158 whisker couplers. Converting a DC engine to DCC can be anywhere from really easy to pretty hard depending on the actual engine being converted. I'd recommend checking with your local hobby shop or club. There's probably someone local that would do it. I'm not sure of any mail in places anymore. I know some used to be around back when all the frames had to be milled before installing a DCC decoder, but as the engines are mostly DCC ready any more I think that niche industry has died off. Maybe someone who reads this will know of a mail-in place that does DCC conversion. Cheers, Kevin.

Very cool, just adding a few different cars changes the whole dynamic of the moves

Joe, yes. That's one of the fun things about these games. They are really easy to change so the whole game is different every time. Cheers, Kevin.

WOW! This is really great. I have several 'train' software, and I am thinking of FINALLY learning how to make my own layout using the one called "TRAINZ". Most likely I will start by using YOUR little 'puzzle' layout here, and then later on coming up with some of my own. But this will be ONLY if I can get my lead-butt motivated enough to get things started! lol 🤣 Thanks so much for your content, buddy!

3:05 BINGO drag the empty out - but where to put it.? Why not at the END of the mainline (out of the way - and at the extreme end of that VERY LONG mainline leg. Don't drag it all around while you shunt the loaded one in and need to drag it out again and this that and OMG it's in the way there too... Your "little" annoying rule of NOT leaving anything on the main (? It's a dead end siding at the top right? ) Plus no true live railway doesn't use the main - if it prevents unwanted multiple handling - to set a new one in on a difficult short spur line - dump the empties as far OUT on the main as possible, as after all, not other "train" will be passing through with all those needless back & forth movements - that involve the loco being ON the main most of that time anyways - so "dump" the empties out there, (out of harms way and away from being deliberately congesting the limited shunting yard space - where they'll be ready for removing later - at the extreme RHS They only need to be there for when you pick all of them up to take away later - not to be dragged all around the tight confines of a short leg shunting yard.
