I just saw Practical Engineering's video on RR crossings, he mentions that they send AC signals down the tracks, sometimes in the audible range, to detect the train location. I wonder how that works! I am going to have to make some more higher sample rate recordings.

i wonder if the loud hf noise is from the traction motors, since you were listening to a diesel-electric loco similarly: i wonder if the atc track circuit (assuming this isn't dark territory) is contributing anything

Happy new year! Nice to see you. A very interesting upload. I wonder, as for the tracks, how long is each section? As I imagined that the tracks maybe adding a new rising tone until it gets to the new track, and as all the other wheels are behind the first wheels going over, the sound overlaps? But your assumption could very well be something to do with it. I am still quite busy with things here and still have to get a video up on your contact mics, bear with me!

@@metalmarshmallowllc I feel I should defo make a video and point to your channel, if this helps in any way that is a bonus I would be very happy with! I don’t know any other channel dedicated to contact microphones where the developer knows the subject inside out and has an incredible passion in what they do.
