I have the Grohmann Army knife. With the “flaws” in the seconds, it really shows the level of craftsmanship and pride that the company takes in their knives. Any imperfection makes it a second. Great quality, great knives great history.

That is mostly true. "The further north you go, the smaller the knives get." I think this might be because axes are also more prevalent.

I had never heard of this brand of knives until I called a local knife shop that has the Boat and Trout knives in stock with the rosewood handles.Which handle material provides the best grip? I’m thinking it’s the stag horn. The Mini Skinner appears to have a thicker blade and maybe better suited for field dressing larger fame. Thanks for showing those Canadian knives.

I am having a difficult time deciding between the #1 and the #3. I'd like the knife for hunting and all purpose knife. Thoughts?
@bushcraftnorthof60122 жыл бұрын
Both are solid choices! I'm more leaning towards the #1 a lot lately. I've got a few with different handle materials, but they all feel wonderful in the hand. Good skinners, great at taking fish and birds apart, and still plenty adequate for camp chores. The #3 is a bit more utilitarian, but still has similar blade geometry. It's a bit more pointed, though, and has a chunkier but still effective handle. If you can, I'd say try both. Can't have too many!
@Tilbily5 жыл бұрын
Wonderful flock of knives there ! I've got the #2 and inherited the #4. They're all great knives and designs IMO. I use the heck out of my #2 , and I have big hands. Cleaned a limit of our big Eastern Grey squirrels each of the last 2 weekends. I've scaled and cleaned Bluegills with it. I don't get out after big game anymore but I've seen forum discussions of people using the #2 to dress Elk. That narrow spine is really maneuverable. The hand can be choked up towards the blade to do finer detail like cutting up squirrels. I can't figure out why some of the super steel crowd knock this steel as kitchen grade. Imo they are comparable to the wildly popular Buck knives in that the steel isn't high end but they get them good and hard so they resist dulling yet resharpen quickly. My next one may be the Slimline single blade pocket knife. Your dual blade seems closer to a Texas Jack pattern. I bet it'll be great for your finer detail bushcraft work or small game.
@bushcraftnorthof60125 жыл бұрын
Tilbily yeah, if your not a steel snob, these will serve you quite well! Apparently the two-bladed folder from Grohmann is highly relied upon by Ray Mears! Can’t wait to get more time on it. Thanks for watching.

That 350s is a sweet knife, it's a part of my choices of every day carry knives depending on what I'm doing that day. With your collection of Grohmanns you will eventually need to get the big lockback folder the R300s. The OAL of the R300s is actually longer and bigger and heavier than the #3 knife which makes it a pretty big folder if that is of any use. I had to check and when I counted them up I have 8 Grohmanns in the Outdoor series a few of which are no longer in their catalog. lol Thanks again for a look at your Grohmanns.

BNof60, I bought that one as a gift for a friend years ago. Very sturdy sheath. Solid folder. What I didn't like was the blockiness to the handle slabs. They could stand to radius things more. But that's just my opinion. People must like them if they've been selling this model forever.

@@bdh3949 on the Grohmann topic, I've often wondered why their outdoor knives emphasize skinning to the point where they don't offer anything with a clip point except in their pocket folders ? Maybe I think too much lol!

I think buying seconds online is still good (what I did) but don't expect the product to have the very most minor flaws. But picking it out at store guarantee what you see you get. My #1 had poor resin application and lots of chipping in wood. My #3 had very noticeable crack in wood. The 107xsd was perfect however.
@bushcraftnorthof60125 жыл бұрын
