More heli changes, fixes and tweaks | Rust Update 18th April 2024

Whenever i try to take heli, it doesnt search for monuments, it literally flies straight across the map and doesnt stop for anyone shooting it, it's impossible for smaller groups to take it now

They nearly made it impossible to take heli now. My friend just started his own server, and so far its just friends playing in it. So without competition to worry about its still difficult. Ive had numerous times were its damaged to smoking or even on fire and it flies across the map for the timer to expire. I dont think anyone asled for this change, but we got it and they may ignore the negative input on it.

Most of the changes would be fine if they just ditched the thing flying off of the map when it gets shot more than 4 times. It’s too inconsistent and counter-intuitive, in theory it’s to stop clans but as always hurts the little man more.

@@zombieranger3410 yeah they went about balancing it all wrong, making clans get it less is just a matter of increasing the randomness of the heli spawns and pathing. But to change the behavior to make it so that it FLEES after being shot (sometimes?) it just makes it so that groups that build further inland are going to take it, i swear some dude built up on a mountain maybe 4-5 grids in from shore and he finished every smoking heli for the wipe after someone on shore had whittled it down.

maybe they think solo survival in a world of clans is madness. I do think they should release their own solo only servers with randomized server to prevent friends from logging in same server on purpose. If they had like 100 official servers dedicated to solo game mode, and shuffled which server you get placed in each new wipe, they could focus on eradicating teamers which private community server owners simply can not do as they just keep coming back. But with random server matchmaking they could actually implement a proper solo game mode and balance stuff for it differently altogether, I would love that as I prefer playing solo too.

I could be wrong, but I think they hotf-ixed horses to keep them from clipping into bases and screwed them over instead - now making them over-clip on all terrain and getting them stuck on everything.

The heli changes would be great if it didn't just fly away from you the moment you shoot at it. I get needing to make it harder and more random. I loved the difference in the way it flew and the way it rocketed and fought back. Made it more interesting and harder but the fly away stuff was bs. If it's about the blow up and starts flying away to a monument, I'd be okay with that. Just makes you want to finish it off as quickly as you can before it can get too far. Most people build by monuments anyway so in theory it wouldn't be too far away altho you know people will start making towers and perhaps walling off monuments more.

and where i global rendering? now the bases just load when u are 100 meter from them causing a massive lags for me when couple bases are loading at once, not to mention that u cant even snipe anyone from more than 200 meters cuz they stop rendering too, whats the point having bolt or L96or 16x scope when u cant even see people, countering oilrig with a boat requires u to go into the iron sight semi range to see people

When I was solo I mag dumped my M2 into it missing barely any shots and hitting the rotor every shot, it left and flew across the map when it was smoking…… I have the clip of it. Like what am I supposed to do? It favours clans more now. I always see heli taken by 6+ ppl with aks that spray it taking it down in seconds, nothing you can do when you’re a small group now. Horrible update. Btw I have 5K hours for context

Making the heli harder for clans was a great idea. ATROCIOUS execution. Return her old AI, with the single change being that when she crashes she searches for the nearest monument -- or the second nearest if she was downed too close to one, to prevent people from making massive clan camping towers right next to water treatment to game the system.

I am glad to see the comments saying heli is impossible for a solo..I got frustrated I built a nice helicopter tower in my little compound as a solo and tried to take heli I had it smoking pretty quick, it just suddenly flew away and wouldn't come back no matter how many times I sniped it...wtf it shouldn't just leave mid battle.

often i just left rust run in the background to wait for heli or see if i get raided. but i m 100% sure they will change the heli back to what it was before. makes no sense to fight heli if you dont get him at least crash next to your base

I'm sorry but backpacks falling off in safezones was a feature, not a bug. It forced you to use your brain a bit with them. It also makes sense that expanded storage wouldn't be protected.

The heli change was a terrible decision from Facepunch. Near impossible for solos and small groups to take it and it going to a nearby monument is just going to result in clans holding it down every single time. Some things just don’t need to be touched, heli is one of them. Needs reverting ASAP.

HUGE NAY to heli changes. It's impossible to bring down (well not impossible - but no one cba) on Solo servers. It's waaaaay too much of a effort now. And NO-ONE shoots it down. The changes they made have had the opposite effect of what they inteded. Who's gonna go out and chase it down as a solo? - No one! Now It's just 15-20mins of annoying thing that flies around with people hiding from it - Yay.

That's 35% damage to either rotor. So it will fly away from you at least 4 times if you're a solo.

"We want to make heli harder for clans!" *makes heli impossible with less than three people * the barrage changes and non-aggro pathing is a-okay but running away when shot at is such a horrible feeling because heli just chooses to go to a random remote part of the map where it'll stay until it despawns (or a clan takes it because you already softened it up) and refuses to re-aggro because of the no-go zone system

The Patrol Helicopter running away because of damage is such a bad concept, no one likes it. Just like, new recoil, bag limiting and auto turret 12/40 limiting, devs are disconected from the game and after this wipe i'll be taking a huge pause from this game...
