Below you'll find complete instructions as well as products used in this video
I was sent the set of 24 mica powders from the nice people at the Hippie Crafter and I wanted to show you some ideas for using them. I'll definitely make another video showing additional ideas, as I didn't want to cram too much into this video.
www.hippiecraf...
Their mica powder is currently sold out on their website, but it is available on Amazon..here's the link:
Mica powder: www.amazon.com...
Their mica link for future reference.

To make watercolor paint from mica powder:
Use the back of a foam plate or foam container to mix the paint on. You'll need a small container to put the paint into once you've made it. Take a palette knife and put maybe a teaspoon of mica powder in the color of your choice, onto the back of the foam plate. Add enough gum arabic link: www.dickblick.... until it is the consistency of cream. You'll need to use the palette knife to work the mica and gum arabic back and forth until they are well incorporated. The container you choose for it should come with a lid, as you won't want dust or dirt to contaminate your new paint. Let the paint dry and then rewet with water when you want to use it.
Yellow & Green Floral Wreath Card:
Floral Wreath Die from In Love Arts link: tinyurl.com/sm...
I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4" and then put washi tape on it to divide it into rows from top to bottom on the 4" length. I painted the outside rows green, the inside two rows yellow, and the center row green. Once it was dry, I glued it to a card base that is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I cut and painted the floral wreath die cut and once it was dry, put very thin foam tape behind it and added it to the panel with stripes. I painted another piece of white scrap cardstock with yellow paint (large enough for the hello die to cover it) and when it was dry, die cut "hello" and then wet glued this to the card.
Butterfly card:
I took a goldish colored 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card base and using a big butterfly I found in my stash, put wet glue on the center of the butterfly and centered it on the card. I added the metallic watercolor paints to it over the blue, red and yellow of the butterfly. I painted a scrap of white cardstock with the red paint I'd made, and die cut "hello" from it, then wet glued this to the bottom of the card.
DIY Gift Wrap: I took a roll of brown paper used for masking when painting.. It is 9" tall link: tinyurl.com/3b...
Make it the length you need, then take your mica powder, plastic packaging, palette knife and Collage Pauge matte link: tinyurl.com/cu...
and mix the mica powder and Mod Podge or Collage Pauge together until they are nice and creamy.
Paint whatever pattern you choose onto the brown paper. You could also use a brown paper bag, as long as it's not wrinkled and it shouldn't have writing on it.
Laminating Book Marks:
Take a bunch of leaf dies and cut them out of whatever paper you choose. Then rub the leaves in embossing ink link: tinyurl.com/5f... or vegetable glycerin and then paint them with the mica powder colors of your choice. Next, lay them in a laminating pouch and run them through your laminator. I do this twice as they might not completely get sealed the first time you run them through.
I also made smoke by flicking mica powders in silver/black, white and a dark gray onto the center section of a laminating pouch and then laminating it. You can also paint a laminating pouch with mica powders and I showed this by painting stripes with the powders I'd used for the smoke.
You can also paint napkins with mica powder and then run the painted napkin through your laminator.

I'll be using it in another video with more ideas. It's so much fun to use because you can turn it into so many other things...If you want to try it, you can use bright really sparkly eye shadow you might already have, or go to Dollar Tree and buy LA Colors pot of eyeshadow...pure mica...It's a great way to experiment without having to spend a lot of money..Sandy

@@terrie1226 It will let you choose a few colors to see if you like playing with mica powders. If you have your husband pry the bottom off of the LA Colors pot, you'll get a lot more mica out of the bottom than you will the top. Use an xacto knife and pry off the bottom...make sure you have a small covered container nearby, as you'll have mica powder go everywhere if you don't., haha...

So Neat! I wonder if you could make a galaxy using the smokey idea. Using the colors in the galaxy. I wish my LA Colors were bolder. Thank you so much for sharing this. Hope your not getting a cold.

I cut a piece of a cutting mat to use in my Cuttlebug too. It wasn’t thick enough so I cut another piece and then it was too thick. I need to just break down a get a piece of acrylic cut. No, I haven’t done it yet, but I’m gonna have to. I’m so impressed with how these Mica Powders produced amazing watercolors, acrylic paints etc. I love how the leaves turned out for the bookmark! They are beautiful 🤩! With the paint could that be used with stamps to make wrapping paper? I have to tell you that I say weird words when I mean to say something else and my kids look at me like I’m an alien! We have to laugh because it so frustrating! My fibromyalgia fog brain is the the alien! This a laminator turned out some really cool looks! The gift wrap is so 😎 cool! This was such a fun and info filled information! I so enjoyed it! The butterfly 🦋 is absolutely 🤩 stunning. Yeah to Hippie Crafter for sending these to you! Have a great day.

I LOVE mica powders. These are SO colorful and my others I'll probably have Rich sell on ebay, as they were so dull in comparison. I'll be making more videos with mica powder ideas. I want to use them on a card and will attempt that soon...You can definitely stamp with mica powder. I'll try that in a video as well. I think I'll try using it like embossing powder on a stamped image, or maybe I'll use the watercolor paint I made and paint the stamp and then stamp with it. I'll let you know what works best. I keep thinking of things to do with mica and I can't wait to play with it some more..Yes, it was SO nice of Hippie Crafter to send them to me, and I hope you can come up with ways to use mica. If you don't want to buy a set, buy the LA Colors eye shadow pots at Dollar Tree and have John pry open the bottom, as that's where you'll get tons of mica, and try it. Or, if you have some crazy colored eye shadows that are sparkly, they're probably mica powder, and use those...You can really have fun when you don't have to buy more craft products...

I have purchased some bright eye shadows at Dollar Tree and ai love to use them when I engrave on acetate! I would like some brighter colors! I love how bright and pigmented these Hippie Crafters are. I might just have to purchase them!! Did they give you a coupon code? I think you would have mentioned it if they did. No big deal. I tried to send you a pic (emailing it from my phone) of a Valentine Idid it the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. I don’t know if I emailed it correctly, but I’ll keep trying. Thank you so much for these cool mica powder video’s they are so inspiring! ❤️

I forgot to mention that my diy cutting mat wasn't thick enough either, so I took a chopping mat from the dollar tree www.dollartree.com/flexible-chopping-mats-11x14in/145661 cut it to size, and used tear tape to adhere it to the bottom of the mat I'd made. If it's still not thick enough, maybe try cutting two and see if that makes it thick enough. After using it for so long, I've just made a video showing how to "renew" it. It's a little thinner now, so I might add another chopping mat to it. Hope this helps.
