I saw this on TV in the later '70s and into the '80s. It remains among my all-time favorite movies. The attitudes and essence of the time is a place I've always wanted to be. It was an early take on what I thought was reality, as a California native among other things. My Grandparents were from the East, and moved to El Monte in 1947. Thanks for sharing these. As a kid I would see some of the identical scenery on the PCH in Malibu, notably the white home with the modernist arched front design.

"It's such a minor scene that most people wouldn't think about..." EXCUSE ME?!?! That's one of the funniest, most memorable scenes in the movie for me! Phil Silvers at his best. As for the "Chevy-Dodge" final car crash into the ditch, I've always been certain the stunt driver behind the wheel of the Dodge had to sustain some serious injuries when he slammed into that steering wheel.
