More North Wales gold - these ones are sketchy in Winter

First ride out of 2023 and I returned to a previous location to see if I could find any other trails and it turned out to be a fruitful explore, some absolute beauties!
There was a downside though; although the weather was ok (cold and dry), the trails themselves were somewhat slick, with a couple of sections that scared the s&$% out of me, especially as I was a bit rusty having not been on the bike for a while.

Thanks mate. It’s definitely more difficult the longer you leave it; confidence usually returns pretty quickly though, unless it’s after a big crash (had a few of those in my time 😃)

Thanks mate, the trails were fantastic but damn were they slippery! I can honestly say that in all my years of riding, I’ve never hit my ear on anything before yesterday. I guess there’s some who would recommend a full face helmet at this juncture but my counter argument would be that one ear ouch in 33 years of riding says the odds are low of a recurrence 😃👍 Tempted fate there, haven’t I 😂

Nasty isn’t it? Took me weeks and then my daughter brought another virus back from school, which was nice of her 😃 Definitely a great place when it dries out, it was good in the slop but scary too 👍

@@Stopadoodledoo my knee brace comes off tomorrow 😃 have been on the excercise bike with the physio, so hoping to go out this week. I just have to take it easy for a bit. I've lost so much muscle in my left quad it's unreal 😭😭

The weather has not exactly encouraged getting out, cold as hell with slop everywhere. I wish I could blame booze but I had to cut back on the Daddy pop because I felt grim (although I did have a few the day before this ride). Thing is, once you have broken through and made the effort, it’s easier the next time (hopefully 😃)

Got a question for you! I have been looking for trails for me and my family to ride but there are not many bridle paths to use! But you seem to find some great trails, are you riding on footpath? I live in Keighley! Thanks

Hi. I do ride on footpaths, I do do with courtesy for other users (such as giving way, etc). To be honest, a lot of places are really limited in the number of available bridleways and often those that are there are not the best. There is an ok network of bridleway around Bingley for instance, but they’re not the best (Altar Lane, etc). For that area, I would consider joining the MTB Bradford Facebook group; the owner of the group and many of the members are a great bunch, really helpful and know the whole area like the back of their hands. I moved away from Bingley a few years ago but still occasionally go back over to ride around the area (plus around Hebden Bridge) as the riding is fantastic when you know where to look.
