It had loads of good ideas, but when the game is rushed just to sell copies on holiday season, the ideas cant evolve good enough to create a game that revolves around them in a well designed manner.

So much little detail I didn't even notice, like dragonfly speeds being different and that you can use bubble breath to kill some enemies/break some containers.

A lot of games have out of bounds cubes. Even a modern game like Cyberpunk 2077 has some. Red Dead Redemption 2 has some outside the map too, out in the Mexico area. Sometimes they're for anchoring animations too, or sometimes even for attaching a large model to to use as something for the dev team to click when moving it around, I've also seen 'em used as triggers for things. Some black cubes, if they're big enough, are rooms. Could be a room the game teleports the player to during a cutscene, could be a room used specifically for an animation (the little respawn portal effect in Borderlands 2 is a good example of that), or it could even be a small room to hold an NPC that's shown on a screen (Half-Life 2 is FULL of these). It's kinda neat that the good ol' dev cube has been around for so long, and is still a thing in 2022.

I'm starting to feel like someone could make a massive mod for Enter the Dragonfly that fixes many aspects and brings in cut stuff. Though good luck figuring out how all of those facial animations on Spyro are supposed to work. I could only tell that one of them was originally intended for the death animation, and was then presumably left unused since they made the overall animation shorter.

WOW, after watching your previous video and now this, I can't believe just how bugged this game is! It ALWAYS felt so empty to me and rushed (even as a teenager), I wouldn't be surprised if you could find another 50 oddities in the future! Keep up the great work.

Weird choice to pitch shift Bianca's voice. They at least done that with Zoe before, albeit inconsistently, but Pamela Hayden I'm pretty sure used her natural voice for Bianca in Year of the Dragon. I get the feeling they did it via the old speed up process as well since it sounds like Hayden is sprinting through those lines.

Right, gotta love the Star Wars references like Tashistation & Porkins from Luau Island. I didn't know about the Princess Bride one but see the line you're refferring to, thanks for that tip! I've got a whole list of references the game makes with many of them not even making it to the final game. A lot of the game's NPCs have different names in their scipt files than they actually do in game like Peabody from Peabody & Sherman.

That L and R pause menu thing... I cant help but wonder if this was used for some debugging in midsts of development and that was a cheat code button combination used, but the prompt was scrapped, but the button combo input wasnt, creating a game crash. Dunno, but i strongly feel like that was the case.

Obviously this game is very flawed because of the publisher's meddling, but the team also _really_ needed a writer. The humor in the final game is all based on blatant pop culture references that always feel lame and out of place

Have you ever seen the glitches with the monkey monasteries npcs and the the character at the end of the honey slide? The monkey npcs if i remember correctly react weirdly to you going behind them and there heads will actually go in a 360 to track spyro and if you go over to the npc at the end of honey slide turn spyro so he's facing away from him then press triangle to talk something very amusing will happen to spyro. Another small mention that i always thought was funny is if you beat the honey slide then head back to the beginning and give up i think they use the wrong voiceline for the npc? It could also be if you fail it and give up too...i don't remember

A lot of interesting details. Also the water just reminds me of the Ratchet 2 museum showing 'hey this wouldn't work well on PS2 hardware' I wonder if the water texture was changed, wasn't as trying to be realistic/push physics or water was removed how much the performance would change besides how rushed the game was with not much optimisation I assume (no idea if other liquids were removed that act like the water or lava in other levels that do have it). Also was this the US full release and pre-release builds or PAL as things can be different there of music, language options, fixes in that time and such. Or is there a difference in GameCube versions too besides the PS2 version? The advertising doesn't seem that off I've seen even recent advertising have on that platform instead of the multiple and some with multiple. On my in my Control PS4 case it has advertising for 505 published games on other platforms (Xbox One, Epic) but I remember some third party advertising only that platform. Maybe I'm thinking it or it was a Day One code or something just trying to recall. But either way I think I forget what. Probably because they feel the need to stick to that platform not advertising other platforms even if it may be available whatever rules or mindset or something there I assume may apply. Or if they do multiple they just ignore reprinting any with differences of one platform. Either way is interesting maybe the port also messed them up besides the Dev environment being what it was. It took me a bit to find this channel again as I saw the hour long interviews and things that I assume have been separated to smaller videos. Anyways.

Water did change throughout development indeed you are correct. This is the PS2 NTSC final release for the majority of shots, but the custom camera angle stuff is the GC NTSC as it’s got a better free camera feature. The E3 & OPSM Demo was used to show off the icy clubs as they were modified between E3 -> OPSM -> Final. PAL builds do have several differences that are very notable I have a video called “Regional Differences” that shows them off and I also have a GC Vs PS2 series that shows off over 100 changes between the versions with a Part 3 I’ve been working on for a while.

I always saw enter the dragonfly as the true Spyro 4 game and last of the real games in the franchise! Despite its many many flaws it's a great game In its own way! ❤️ And I love it❤️

6:31 - When playing this game, every so often I'd fall off a ledge, often times on one of the slides and get stuck falling into the big black abyss with that gray spyro silhouette in the top left. What is that gray silhouette for?

Great question! That’s Spyro’s shadow. The game doesn’t know where to display it when there’s no ground below you so that’s why it appears at the top left. It’s also happened for the UFO in Crop Circle Country’s Cow Abduction for me.

how do you get some of these shots? is there a free camera available for this game? i'd be very interested! other thoughts i had watching this: 1:05 i learned on Boundary Break that these are often put into maps for programming reasons. like, to trigger cutscenes, things like that. 5:45 I ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THIS

There is a Free Camera Debug Cheat that requires using a 2nd controller but there’s also a free camera built into Dolphin you can use for the GameCube builds of the game.

@@Diablo_Himself Bianca/Zoe’s lines have been pitched up after recording the actors, to restore their original pitches they must be pitched down, Bianca’s is more significant than Zoe’s. When it says ‘PITCHED:’ I’m referring to pitching them down as those are my edited versions.

This game is worse than Sonic 06 in my opinion. The levels are boring, the frame rate drops constantly, the dragonfly catching mechanic is tedious, and the game is too short. Both this game and Sonic 06 could’ve been great if they weren’t rushed…
