I don't listen to many audiobooks, it's just not the way my brain works, but I can recommend the Dramatized Adaptation full cast versions of C.J. Cherryh's books. It helps that I have physically read the books several times, so I know the story. On the other hand, i did not like the regular audio version of Merchanter's Luck. The narrator's voice is not what I hear in my head when I read. Kevin R. Free did such a good job with Murderbot that his is the voice I hear when I read them now.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Emily Woo Zeller is my favorite audio narrator by far. I’ll listen to her read anything! A wonderful voice, of course, but she reads each sentence with the perfect amount of emphasis. Flawless intonation. Her narration enhances the text by maintaining a kind of suspense and significance throughout. Listening to her narrate Breasts and Eggs (by Mieko Kawakami) changed my life! It’s truly a performance and not a mere reading. (It's also not sci-fi, but a fantastic novel.) Thanks for the great video.

Can you review KZbin authors and narrators some of my favorites are P E Rowe ( aka Mr Audiobook in my eyes he writes ,narrates , and even does his own thumbnails. about 50 videos in his 1st year. ) , Gerald Kilby , Lars , and many others others. My favorite narrator is now Sonny Burton aka Bloody Bookmarker ,, he is new and doing an amazing job with his reading of the Red Riding Series.

If you liked Bobiverse chances are good you'll like Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson. Action packed and very humorous. R.C. Bray gives an exceptional performance in all the novels.

Personally I now love audiobooks even if it took me a long time to get into the format haha, so don't give up guys! Now I find Sci-Fi Audiobooks to be wonderful, I read Project Hail Mary but I'd be curious about the audio version because of certain something :P We Are Legion will be my next pick thanks to your video, it sounds so good!

i was doubting whether to read or listen to ninefox gambit; ty for making the choice a lot easier! i really liked em grossland's narration of the monk & robot books by becky chambers. lauren ezzo's performance also made dead silence by s.a. barnes more enjoyable (and believeable) than it would have if i'd read the physical book, i think. 🎧

Thanks for the recommendations. To be honest, I don't listen to many audiobooks; I have trouble concentrating on them, so even short ones take me a long time. But I did listen to a couple of Arthur C. Clarke classics (Childhood's End and Rendezvous With Rama) and enjoyed them. I'm currently listening to Shockwave Rider by John Brunner.

it took me years and years to be able to listen to an audiobook, not get side tracked and enjoy the story, once I did my next 5 reads were Audiobooks, I think its just finding a way to listen without doing too much to get distracted but also in a way that's not boring to you, it takes time to get into this format :)

Rachel, I strongly recommend the audiobook of Theodore Sturgeon's More Than Human, possibly the best of his work and probably the most famed piece of his excellent fiction, narrated by the incredible voice actors Stefan Rudnicki AND my favorite writer Harlan Ellison. Available at Libby.

What a fantastic video, Rachel! I love We Are Legion. And Ray Porter really brings it alive. I listened to Project Hail Mary recently as well and I was absolutely captivated. I loved it. I want to reread Seveneves and I think audio might be the best way of doing it. Scott Sigler's "Infected" trilogy is well worth listening to. Hard sci fi, body horror, VERY character driven, and written for audio format with great production value for being an older series The first two books are narrated and voiced by the author, the third one is done with a professional narrator... And it's released completely free as a podcast and on KZbin

Completely off topic, Rachel, but have you read "Night Call" by Brenden Carlson? It's a bit of an alt-history, noir sci-fi mystery novel with robots and social commentary (sounds like a lot and it is - that was my main concern with it). Canadian author. I liked the first book in the series (called "The Walking Shadows" but I haven't figured out why yet) enough that I'm now reading the second one. If you are looking to read something different, it's definitely different. I've never read anything quite like it.

I agree that Project Hail Mary is best consumed in audiobook format. I want to check out We Are Legion. The only other two science fiction books I have listened to are Ender's Game (great because it's a full cast) but I know that's not your favorite book 😂 and the Michael Vey series, which is YA so I don't think you would be interested in that either 😉

Ninefox Gambit was a rough one for me. While I like all the Cheris and Jedao interactions the rest was hit or miss. I thought Project Hail Mary and some of The Expanse audiobooks were great. I really enjoyed Paloini's To Sleep In A Sea Of Stars too. 🚀

haven't tried audio yet but may have to one day but commenting on the books as books I'm afraid to find out what kind of body the guy in the mind-transfer one ends up in also surprised hail mary was as good as the martian and a little shocked about revelation invovling the "hero" in latter half loved stephenson's snow crash and cryptomonicon but later things like fall miss the mark also his books are way too long have had invasion of body snatchers experience personally people often turn out to be opposite of what you think

The Expanse audio books ruined the medium for me. Every other book I have tried to listen to seems tacky in comparison now. Jefferson Mays' performance was exceptional.
