If the data is as they represent, how did this possibly pass peer review? Most journals have staff statisticians, surely they should have caught this. Could it possibly just be they are biased so much, that shoddy analysis (potentially suspicious) passes review? If so, our medical journals are in a terrible state.

Yes, I agree. I have two observations: -yes, the groups are not comparable. The initial 5x greater rate of POTS in the infected group could indicate a higher rate of comorbidity in this group since POTS can be caused by many disorders including mitochondrial damage due to certain medications. -also I would ask if the infected group included vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Is an individual considered to be unvaccinated if they have had one or two shots? Is being vaccinated considered to be one shot, two , three or four?In addition how did they determine if the vaccinated subjects had or had not been infected? Wouldn’t infection in the vaccinated group be a confounding variable? In other words, how did they properly screen individuals for the study? It seems to me that the criteria for distinguishing study groups is murky at best and virtually impossible at worst and therefore any results would be compromised.
@Laivasse
@Laivasse Жыл бұрын
It's entirely possible that the 'infected' group is a subset of the vaccinated group, that everyone or almost everyone in the study was vaccinated, and that the higher rate of POTS upon infection is a unique outcome of being infected after vaccination. I don't see them make any attempt to differentiate vaccinated or unvaccinated outcomes, yet it seems like the study is being spun as a report about outcomes for infection in the unvaccinated...? It reeks of dishonesty from top to bottom.

I have the same concern as Brian. Since many vaccinated people also become infected with Covid, what is the percentage that get POTS. That seems to me to be very important. Since it is not mentioned are they implying that the vaccinated people who are then infected, are part of the general vaccinated percentage? or what? This should have been addressed. They seem to present the data as if vaccinated people do not get Covid which is totally untrue.

So, as a personal aside, I got COVID before vaccines. Hard to breathe, etc. After recovery, I had severe headaches for months. I got the vaccine. I was really, really sick and had a dizzy spell that lasted for three months and two weeks straight. Much worse than the long COVID symptoms from my first infection. I will never get another shot. This was the worst symptom but not the only symptom after vaccination. Then, I got COVID again on Thanksgiving this year. The infection was much different. More like a flu this time, but I was still pretty sick for a few days. I have noticed some very faint-like feelings and woozy feelings. Not quite like the dizzy spells, but not quite normal. I don't know if it will get worse, but I'm hoping not. I got better after the long COVID symptoms from the first infection in about four months and from the vaccine all together about nine months. This one is showing a lot of bad headaches again and woozy spells. But not as bad as the first time or the vaccine so far. I think the vaccine for sure gave me a POTS like illness for awhile, but I got better. Not the first infection and who knows if this time the POTS like symptoms will get better or worse. But my theory is that it isn't POTS. I think it's new. They are looking at old reasons for a new disease and the symptoms do not quite fit in the box of what they are saying to explain it. It isn't POTS. It is POTS like. I wouldn't know this if it didn't happen to me, but that's what I think. They should be looking for novel causes for these rare reactions to this novel disease. It's not POTS but it's definitely in the brain. Brain fog was much worse with the vaccine, but there with both infections as well. It gets better.

Thank God pots was debilitating for me as a stay at home mom to 4 kids. I literally thought I was going to die . My d dimer was 3x higher than normal. I was a mess. But im 95 percent better. @@Claire-.- its a long story but it happened while I was sick with covid.. the pots symptoms were worse than the actual sickness. I started taking ivermectin on day 3 from the first symptom of covid I took it for 7 days.. After that my pots lasted a month or 2 I took everything I could. High dose b1 B complex Magnesium complex Electrolytes High salt intake High vitamin d Quercetin zinc vitamin c complex Elderberry NAC white pine needle tea Dandelion root tea Spermadine Reservatrol Infrared red light Fish oil Grassfed liver supplement Lots of lemon water Star Anise Tea Gosh I hope i didnt miss a few During my infection I went to the er 2 xs because I thought I was having a heart attack. It was so scary. My d dimer level was 3x higher than it should ..so I also took nattokinase. Forgot to mention that earlier. I still take all of the above. Not every day. I kinda like switch it up.bevause I don't want to overload myself but I also don't know the proper way to take all that I have bought. I would say the ivermectin the b1 and the natto helped me out the most .. Also breathwork pranayama Vagus nerve healing Meditation Started ending my shower with cold showers. Positive thinking. I also ate better I think the main thing is to get ride of the spike protein . Hope this helps someone. I was feeling desperate at one time not too long ago. I had this probably in 2017 I also thought it was a heart attack as the pain was really bac. This happened usually once a day and seemed to come after a big meal. The fatigue was such that I would have to rest after going to collect the post for a few minutes. This lasted two years and now is fine again. My best guess is I picked up this from a Thalasso where people go to recuperate and come from all over the world and probably most from USA.

Thank you for your service to humanity. There are many discrepancies throughout the last 3 years. Seems there is one narrative for critical thinkers and one for those who only watch legacy news. I am an unvaccinated long hauler. I was not at high risk. Suddenly my retired roommate became sick, then i two days later. As homebodies, neither of us went out much. I think we both went grocery shopping once each in the month prior. We dont hang out or eat together. He shared a store bought container of food with me leftover from a day or 2 prior. That's about it. So if there were infection in it , it survived at least 24 hours or more in the fridge. While we both recovered (he is vaccinated x 2) quickly, he 4 days, me 3. I immediately went on to develope long covid.; Extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, headaches, some heart racing, etc. Why i am writing this is? Because this is our first sickness and prior, i was working around many people the last 3 years and not even a cold. Im sure they now know who is vaccinated and who is not. This long haul does not feel anything like a sickness. Its quite alien. If fact, the symptoms closely resemble Havana Syndrome. Im concerned they are starting to use those w-epons on us now. Anyone else wonder this? The DEWS & EMF have been documented, tested with precsion use on individuals, groups and even whole cities like Eugene OR for 50 or more years now. Given that the Fau- emails give great insight to this gain of function v_rs, it would be prudent to also look at all the rest as a possibility. Knowing GA-tes history of discrete testing and lineage of eugenics, overpopulation, and funding of others for the same, its worth a look. P.S. We are funding the growing of lettuce to vaccinate as "an alternative to needles". Im not at all comfortable with that. Just sayin.

I have had pots for years. At the start, my cardiologist said that covid had been causing pots, so when they said the vaccine was being released, I thought there is no way on earth that I would introduce the spike on purpose and make my health worse. My son had pots too and he had the shots - he now has high blood pressure on standing and his heart rate will shoot from 65 on laying to 140 odd on standing then it will suddenly race up to 190s or more then back down to 140s. You can feel double beats in his wrist (one weak one strong) which is mirrored on trace. Cardio says it sounds like ectopics. And the fatigue he now has is severe since the shots. Also, he had covid before the shots and it had no affect on his pots but after the first vaccine within a week he was so ill with covid and his pots got much worse.

if vaccines can cause POTS, and infection can cause POTS, and vaccines/natural immunity does not prevent infection, this seems pretty clear that being vaccinated/boostered and reinfected would cause high risk chances of this developing no, it is more risk than benefit, 90% of severe cases in 65+ while 90% of long term symptoms is under 65. way more suffer from the increased risks than there are fatal cases

Getting POTS now, definitely the spike protein has a role, don't know how in this case the adrenaline (epinephrine) is triggered. Following Johns Hopkins on treatment: "The foundation of treating POTS is to drink fluids frequently throughout the day. For most POTS patients, the goal is at least 64-80 ounces (about 2-2.5 liters) a day. You would also need to increase your intake of salty foods and add more salt to your diet with a saltshaker or salt tablets. These dietary modifications help keep water in the bloodstream, which helps more blood reach the heart and the brain." So increasing salt intake (careful for those with high blood pressure), drinking lots of water and major reduction of diuretic foods and drinks. I tried the Japanese seaweed (it has iodine) and seems to get almost immediate calming effect. Constant physical movement and wear tight compressed clothing to improve blood flow. Also a little bit of deep breathing exercise. Results in good reduction of heart palpitations but it's still there. Thinking about going to doc to get beta blockers. I think somewhere the nerve areas have been damaged or inflamed and must wait for them to heal. End of message.

What you wrote is pretty much how I control my Pots. But I have it from EDS (ehlers danlos syndrome)... I have NOT had C19 or the jab. But I control it by doing exercise (my legs are all muscles), drinking water, eating salt, wearing leggings. And avoiding foods I react to!! If I use ANY product I react to or eat a food I react to then I get VERY Potsy! I have had my heart rate jump from 55 to 110 just by raising my arm AND because I had tried using a shampoo / conditioner that contained a corn derivative (corn allergy)... Exposure to air freshener makes me feel unbalanced. So these things all work together. You need to avoid things you react to and do the other things.

I had POTS prior to Covid but it got much worse after Covid infection in Jan 2020. I had Covid possibly two more times since. Haven't had vaccine, but was sickened several times after being around recently vaccinated people. Another thing that helps with POTS is a supplement called SaltStick which is fruit flavored chewable tablets that contain salt and other electrolytes. I also discovered a number of popular supplements will lower BP like vitamin K2, magnesium, berberine, nettle. So haven to be really careful and balance things.

How does this paper define the groups, vaccinated/unvaccinated? Often times the injury/adverse reaction post-vaccination is timing related. Most injuries from vaccines have been reported to have occurred in the relative short-term--less than 2 weeks from delivery. Ironically, those reported injuries are (almost universally) attributed to "unvaccinated subjects" as the pharmaceutical intervention has not had the sufficient "2 weeks" to elicit an immune response. NOTE: that's 2 weeks after the 2nd shot of the "primary series." That means that a HUGE proportion of the injuries attributed to "unvaccinated" are actually those individuals who were literally JUST vaccinated. By definition, 100% of the 1st-shot vaccine injuries are attributed to "unvaccinated," and ALL injuries within the first 2 weeks post-second shot are attributed to "unvaccinated."

The data seems to show that 1.there is no significant difference in risk of POT from infection or vaccine. 2.there are 5x more POT patient in unvaccinated group versus vaccinated group.This might indicate that people with POT are 5x more likely to avoid vaccination.Such difference in medical conditions between unvaccinated and vaccinated group has never been accounted for, and the the descrepancy in the consequences , including death has not been properly accounted for but simply attributed to the benefit of the vaccine just like now in the case of POT. Another misleading information is to conclude that because the risk of POT in vaccination is much lower than being infected, it is better to vaccinate than to be infected.This conclusion implied that vaccination would 100% prevent infection and so the 2 risks are mutually exclusive, and that the chance of infection is 100% if one does not get vaccination, both of which are not true.

To be read as "Blit-shteyn". It is a "mutated" russification of a German surname ending with -stein, like "Ein-stein" where in German the letter S written in the beginning of words/roots of words before the letters T and P are pronounced as SH in English :) So, EinStein in German is actually pronounced Aynshtayn. Now in russifications those surnames are also wrongly pronounced, making them sound as if written in Latin (e+i+n / eyn), instead of considering, that it is a diphthong.

Quoting article... "The overwhelming majority of patients with POTS are women (80-85%) of child-bearing age (13-50 years)." 1. Can we see this data separated by gender and age? 2. If you were vaccinated and then got covid anyway... most did... were you moved to the "after infection" group OUT of the "after vaccinated" group. 3. If you had an infection BEFORE you were injected, which group were you in? 4. If you were vaccinated and then infected and then injected again and then infected again ? 5. If you were in the unvaccinated group and never ever got infected either... why is your incidence of POTS 5.5 times higher for seemingly no reason?

If the symptom of POTS is becoming dizzy or passing out when getting up too fast, I have suffered, undiagnosed, almost my whole life; except for the last 3 years. A little more than 3 years ago I removed fruit, vegetables, grains, and seed oils from my diet. I was addressing an oxalate problem but one of the immediate changes was the ability to get up quickly without becoming dizzy! Obviously this is n=1, but it suggests the mechanism may have nothing to do with COVID. Oh, and I recently recovered from COVID. It did not affect my ability to get up quickly.

Last year I rode about 4700 miles for instance. My BP varies with how relaxed I am of course. A typical office visit might be 12x/80 from what I remember. Taking it myself I get down to around 110/70ish? I'm 58, btw. My resting HR can drop below 50. Max HR during exercise on the bike can get into the low 180's, but if I've taken a long break, I can hit 190. I don't spend much time at those rates of course. :) I'm usually in the 130-170 range. Even if we could trust the numbers in that study, all it seems to tell us is that both the vaccine and the infection can have negative effects.

I agree with Dr. Been that both groups should start out with approximately the same rate, if you are neither vaccinated or have SC2. Something seems to be contaminating the group that didn't start out with having SC2. The background rate for a group that isn't infected with SC2 and hasn't been vaccinated should be the same. The logic for having differing starting points escapes me.

Are they using numbers of POTS patients actually diagnosed and using the basic medical guidelines? If so, the incidents are wildly different to the reality. Not one GP/Primary Care doctor that I have spoken to (friends who are doctors included) recognise POTS symptoms and all would assume after negative results coming back from testing that the patient has a psychological disorder. Two years after the start of Covid, almost all medics and healthcare workers, have no idea about Long Covid related symptoms and would never think to check someone's heart rate standing up as well as sitting down. Cardiologists don't know much about POTS either. They know what it is of course, but on presentation of a patient with POTs, they also don't take their heart rate standing up. Cardio Electrophysiology is a speciality within the profession and they would know, but how the heck does someone get to be referred to one of those without the previous medics having an inkling as to what it might be... Professors of cardiology and pulmonology don't often recognise POTS symptoms and after ruling out the usual major cardiac and pulmonary differentials will write to patients' GPs and say that their illness is outside of the 'medical sphere' and a psychological assessment is advised. Neurologists who haven't specialised in autonomic neurology also don't often recognise it and those who do mostly recognise the standard, documented symptoms, any other slightly rarer symptoms being presented, such as onset of movement disorders on exertion alongside POTS symptoms would not be connected. In this way, based on the majority of physicians across the board of specialities, in all countries, as well as primary practitioners who are relied on to triage and refer on appropriately, there is no chance on earth that the reported numbers in this or any of the research being published of POTS/autonomic dysfunction are accurate, if that is what these figures are representing. First healthcare professionals need to have their training updated and the importance of reporting diagnoses using the accurate ICD10/11/DSM V codes, then we can possibly start getting comfortable with data being published.

But why are we comparing them like that? In the vaccine group, we had 501 cases of POTS before the vaccine and 763 after - hence 262 new cases. Dividing it by the total number of people in the vaccine group 284592, we are getting approximately 1 new case of POTS per 1000 doses. For the disease group, we had 123 cases before the disease and 260 after, so 137 new cases. As the total size of the disease group is 12460, this gives us approximately 1 new case in 100 infections. So, isn't it even 10 times more then? But the setup looks bizarre to me. Why not exclude people who already had POTS before the exposure, and instead just have a healthy control group to have an idea of how many cases of POTS occur on their own within the same period of time.

In which country was this study done? What was the age group? Sexes? Any comorbidities? Was there a follow up of the participants? Which testmethod was used?

This should not have passed peer review without being clarified. No conclusion that does not explain the data discrepancies can be supported.

I feel sorry for the youngins futures and the people that lined up because their TV told them to. If you haven't seen a 'plan' in the works for quite some time, I feel sorry for you too, and recommend forest bathing or some sh!t to wake you up. - It's clear the 'plan' won't stop no matter the cost.

Not vaccinated but caught covid twice. This year had 2 episodes of tachycardia requiring emergency visits to reset the heart. I've had occasional tachycardia events my whole life but all prior to infection never required medical attention. My Dr has discussed orthscopic surgery to burn off the node's on the heart causing the tachycardia. Wonder if this study even worth mentioning to my Dr?

In post to follow are calculations for odds and odds ratios (OR). However, as Dr. Been pointed out, it's really glaring that pre-intervention (vaccine or infection) POTS prevalences are dramatically different - this has to imply something about the comparability of the patients. I'd be surprised if the ORs are statistically significantly different with this sample size. Also possible is that people with Covid were likelier to visit their doctor in the 90 days post-intervention and thereby likelier to report various symptoms that were part of the authors' "POTS proxy." To their credit the authors recognized a number of limitations and tried to correct for some of them (e.g. incidence of other primary care diagnoses and gender) but come on Nature--you're among the very top science journals in the world! Also am not aware POTS is a "heart disease" - I think those in the EDS and MCAS scientific communities consider POTS to be a dysautonomia - in other words, neurological with vascular consequences. Probably we'll find out there's more to it (understatement). We're WAY not close enough to understanding what SARS-CoV-2 or its vaccines do to the body. Of course we have to make decisions based on what we know and our personalized assessment of risk/benefits, but we need some authentic analysis of the analysis before deciding this study is helpful. PS: Usually the AMA journals' editors are more skeptical than this. Over the years they've published a long wonderful and very useful series on "The User's Guide to the Medical Literature." Hmmm....

Fun fact, POTS is common after many other viral infections and other illnesses, not just cvd related.
