Dear Mr. Ramey welcome back!!! 😍And thank you so much for answering so many other questions! Speaking of singers you've sung with, could you tell us something about Jessie Norman, Kathleen Battle (they are my favorite soprano), Ferruccio Furlanetto? And also James Morris, Francisco Araiza, Enzo Dara, Ruggero Raimondi, June Anderson? It is wonderful to hear your stories, I would listen to you for hours! (even though I had a very intense period of work and I couldn't hear this whole episode right away!😑). A big THANK YOU and a greeting from one of your many Italian fans! 🥰

I can’t believe we don’t have a count recording bc of a blister! That’s crazy. I’m sad it didn’t happen, but glad you recovered!

Maestro, 1. Have you ever sung Wagner? Does you voice suit Wagner? 2. Have ever sung Russian music? I am sorry to be too inquisitive. 3. Could you name your favourite Rossini opera or pieces that you love to sing, please? Do you enjoy Rossini? 4. Your coloratura ability is unbelievable. Do you like that style of music? I could only imagine that breath control is crucial. Could you tell us your own opinions, perspective about coloratura? I am long term devoted fun of your pieces since my high school time. I could tell I spent almost 15 years listening to your recordings. It was time worth spend 🙂 Best wishes from Poland

@@thomasmalesys2886 Maestro Ramey sang Varlaam? I read somewhere that he sang Pimen in addition to Boris, but not, to my knowledge, Varlaam.

Thank you so much for this wonderful wonderful channel! I have a question, which I’m quite desperate to know.. Have you ever taken a break from your stage career at one point for a certain period of time during your career? And is it common for singers to do this and is it easy to come back after like 1 or 2 years somehow in today’s volatile opera industry? A base singer whom I’m a big fan of (beside you) who have sang with you and is a huge admirer of you himself recently withdrew from his career just so suddenly for a personal reason. It made me devastated as his repertoires have been shifting towards more Verdi in the recent years and it’s just such a shame not being able to see them evolve, so I was wondering if there’s still a hope for me to wait him return at one point…🙏

I never took an extended break, but you certainly can and still return to singing. It may take awhile to get the voice back in shape, but as long as you haven't damaged your instrument, it should be fine. Maybe even very good.

Thank you so much for answering more questions, including some from myself I know you were familiarly eager to tackle. I was wondering if you ever mentioned some of the singers that you knew and worked with. The ones I was referring to were Ruggero Raimondi (he was in Rossini's Il Viaggio with you under Claudio Abbado), Paata Burchuladze (Another basso profondo as Il Commendatore, but in the Karajan production of Don Giovanni with you and Furlanetto), the great Nicolai Ghiaurov (you sang Inquisitor to his Philip II in Don Carlo), and Nicola Zaccaria (aka Giulio Mauri and one of the four bassos with the first name: both himself, Rossi-Lemeni, Ghiuselev, and Moscona)? He was the Greek basso who was one of the many singers that performed and recorded with Maria Callas very often in La Scala under Tullio Serafin and, to my surprise, had a long term relationship with Marilyn Horne in later life as her 2nd husband after she divorced Richard Lewis. If I am mistaken?? I knew that Zaccaria was in the recording of L'italiana with you, Horne, and Kathleen Battle. A smooth, warm, suave, commanding, and beautiful voice he had. His Oroveso, Sparafucile, and Basilio were always wonderful when he performed with Callas under Serafin as well as singing Count Rodolfo in La Sonnambula under Votto with the Amina of Callas herself. Also, I read recently that you sang Commendatore like dozens of time at Wichita Grand Opera. How was Il Commendatore a different role than Don Giovanni and Leporello? This character is literally the reason why the Don meets his dramatic fate, especially when the ghostly statue appears at the dining hall with that booming, sepulchral bass voice before dragging him to Hell. As for the race part, I have some people that got me mixed up with being Russian, Italian, East Indian, Indonesian(Asian), Pakistani, Persian, Egyptian, and/or Jewish. So, I've been there before until I had my genealogy completed and found out they were included from the results. I had no idea that was what people see me as then, but now I do since I blend in with everyone regardless of my ethnic background. Outside of that race factor, some people got me mixed up with Former NJ Gov. Chris Christie because they thought my last name is the same as his, but it's really not when I clarified my actual last name with a last letter different than the last two of his. I hope there aren't any guys out there with my name or if they look like me, especially if they're found on Facebook/Meta. BTW, great job with the house interior remodeled! I love it!

Thank you Maestro for sharing these valuable experiences with us! If I could ask something, which I don't know that you have answered it already or not, have you ever been in experience of stage fright? Or maybe on some audition if so, how could you manage to deal with it? Best wish from Thailand
