Those are probably the handful amount of retired R46s that are gonna be cannibalized for spare parts for the remaining fleet until the R46s are fully retired. They did the same thing for the Redbird Fleet during the Early 2000s and the R32s, R38s, R40s and R42s during the Late 2000s.

I think it's a three-way switch. They're switching the R211 with the R46s, while they are retiring. All R68s are being transferred to Coney Island (N,Q and W) and the B and D lines are getting R211s

Nah the R211s are also heading to N/Q/W CBTC has been confirmed for Broadway and the R211s are now unfortunately also replacing a large portion of the R68/As fleet

Im not sure why people seem to allude that all the oldies are leaving in the next five years & everyone is getting CBTC. All of this will take several years & much of it is dependent on Congestion Pricing. So if CP gets scuttled by the lawsuits & political games & Trump permanently wipes it out, do not expect any of these radical changes to occur for a very long time.
