My dad bought me the very same amstrad radio for my 15th birthday, absolutely loved it , if I saw another one I'd snap it up

I was gifted a Yaesu FRG-7700 some years ago by a fellow ham - I do like that transitional style of radio that sits on the threshold between analogue and digital - looking forward to seeing the Trio in action.

Me too - it's a great rig.

I was at that rally, as you say it was really good. Spotted 3 FRG7s there at different prices. I ended up buying a Yaesu FT One transceiver myself! You will enjoy the R 1000 its a really nice radio and so simple to use.

Very nice! I saw the FRG-7s and was momentarily tempted to buy one as a back-up! The R-1000 is just a great, simple radio. 73

Clint, if it is perspex on the front of the Sterling and the scratches aren't too deep, you may be able to polish out the scratches with a compound called "Polywatch" - it's designed for taking out scratches in acrylic watch glasses. I've used it on my FT-817 quite successfully. I think I may have mentioned it before, it is pretty good stuff and is cheap. The R-1000 was an amazing radio. When I was a youngster (13 or so) the secretary of the radio club I was a member of used to let me loan his radio when he went on holiday so a lot of late nights... Happy days! Looks in really nice condition too. Nice work :) de M0SNR

Great finds. I wish I could find my first SW radio - it was a small transistor Sylvania AM/SW radio from the early 60’s. I heard my first BBC and VOA broadcasts on it! I’ve never seen that model listed/pictured anywhere online, but then Sylvania’s were not known for SW.

Nice! I’m looking for an R-5000 but they are so expensive. I have the R-2000

Great score Clint! Always had an eye for the R1000 but have not pulled the trigger on one for the same reasons as yourself. Either too poor condition or too expensive. Will you parts swap on the portables and build a pristine one or just give both a good cleanup?

Thanks Adam! No I won't take the other two radios apart to build one. I haven't got the time and even if I did I probably couldn't be bothered! They both work which is the main thing!
