In the Tarzan books it is revealed Tarzan's actual name given to him by his parents is John Clayton the 3rd. The villain In the movie William Cecil Clayton is actually his cousin. Tarzan's parents weren't killed by a leopard in the books the mother died from illness. And as for the father he was brutally beaten to death by gorillas. Those same gorillas would raise him as Tarzan which in ape language means white skin.
@ptthatswhatshesaidАй бұрын
Interesting to rewatch this having in mind that Clayton is his cousin 😅
@phoebusapollo836528 күн бұрын
Some corrections, Clayton in the books is his cousin, in the Disney movie, there is no confirmed relation between them. The apes that killed Tarzan’s father and adopted Tarzan were not gorillas, they were Mangani, a fictional ape species similar to Gorillas. Tarzan actually kills a gorilla silverback when he’s 10, and the distinction is made clear between the two species.

High Recommendation for "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" (1984). It was the first Tarzan film to be nominated for an Academy Award. Best Supporting Actor (Ralph Richardson), Best Screenplay from Another Medium and Best Makeup Starring: Christopher Lambert as John Clayton/Tarzan Andie MacDowell as Jane Porter Ralph Richardson as The 6th Earl of Greystoke, John Clayton's grandfather Ian Holm as Capitaine Phillippe d'Arnot ("Ash" from "Alien" !)

I have made it a mission that when I become a parent, I would sing You'll Be In My Heart to soothe their crying. While I doubt I'd do Phil Collins due justice, I'd try hard to emulate the emotion behind the lyrics. Side note: I recommend the live-action 101 Dalmatians, starring Kala's voice actress Glenn Close in the role of Cruella De Vil.

In the original novel series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan goes back to England with Jane, but returns to Africa. I read the series in my youth so I don't remember the reasons for going back and forth (unless it was her father's health) but it happened at least once.

There's that poor shoe, others aren't really too bad, but several things about the end for sure was possibly scary. In particular a death. Very interesting! He did in english, french, spanish, german and italian. No portuguese though... Still a lot of languages for him to have done!
@paintedjaguar29 күн бұрын
OK, has anyone told her she is watching a fantasy story? Although at the time the Burroughs books were written in the early 1900s this story might have still passed as anthropological science-fiction... And by the way, the "apes" in Tarzan are NOT supposed to be gorillas -- they are Mangani, an undiscovered type of hominid species with a primitive spoken language of their own. In "Tarzan of the Apes" Tarzan does fight a gorilla and also one or two members of his foster mother's tribe of "apes", but those are two distinct species -- Bolgani and Mangani in Tarzan's first language. Disney's "Tarzan" isn't a terrible adaptation of the books as such things go, but it's still a long way from the novels that Edgar Rice Burroughs created which still rival Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories for the most popular literary character ever. One tip -- if you intend to read the Tarzan books, be aware that the first two, "Tarzan of the Apes" and "The Return of Tarzan" are two halves of the same story rather than stand-alone novels. This is also important if the reader is going to be sensitive about whether the books conform to "modern" social conventions. At least get a more complete picture by reading both before getting triggered. Here are another handful of fantasy/sf movies that were made with adult sensibilities in mind and are still entertaining today: King Kong (1933 The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) Miranda (1948) Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid (1948) The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) The Time Machine (1960) Planet of the Apes (1968) Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) Death Becomes Her (1992) Happy Accidents (2000) The Lakehouse (2006) The Man from Earth (2007)

Thank you. If you want to know more about Tarzan, the original books are still in print, they are however a product of their time. Though compared to some writers of the time who are still popular, the author, Edgar Rice Burroughs, was somewhat less offensive to modern sensibilities. Phil Collins, who is the primary vocalist, recorded his songs in French, Italian, German, and Spanish for the dubbed versions of the film's soundtrack, so it is likely you saw a version where the songs were in English. This version of Tarzan is reasonably close to the books. Most of the alterations are obviously to make it more appealing to modern children. If you want a more book accurate movie there is really only one, however alongside that one there has been another decent attempt in more recent times. The first movie, "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" (1984) keeps remarkably close to the original story, and is certainly the closest adaptation of Tarzan to the book. The second much more recent movie, "The Legend of Tarzan" (2016) and is largely adapted from portions of a later book by the author and historical events in the Congo, while also taking time to show much of the original story in flashback. Both movies benefit from excellent acting and are well worth viewing if you have any further interest in Tarzan.
