Well, we are getting slammed with snow and I think Winter is laughing at us! Don’t think we have gotten this much snow at once or this much this early in Winter before. Almost 10” overnight and probably a few more inches today. Makes us so thankful for a barn full of hay and healthy cows.
Clover Mountain Dairy is a small Organic farm in Northeast Washington state about an hour north of Spokane.

Think of it as magic liquid for growing grass next Spring. Could be time to string up some snowshoes. The horses and cows are certainly dressed for the weather. Such a pretty red barn against the snow back drop. Thanks for the early Christmas card.

The two of you seem much happier in the snow than I would be. God chose the right farm to bless with snow! I was watching this with daughter Lydia and she made a good point -- those big horses should be plowing out their own hay feeding spot in the pasture, not Stacy. The cows look great. I love to see Jersey heifers with plenty of weight on them. I think the "experts" don't realize that the Jersey cow is supposed to be fatter than the other dairy breeds.

We try and look for the joy in it. If we got angry at the snow, it wouldn’t change anything… I’d just be angry, and still have the snow! Haha! I do like my heifers a little chubby… not that I can do anything about it. They’re like that and they only get grass hay! Thanks for watching!

You will love those muffs. My wife got me a set a couple of years ago and I live in them for things like mowing and log splitting. I don't tend to use them on the tractors as often, but that is only because I have learned that it is best to be listening to the vintage tractors when working them. I second the notion that you need to keep future storms in mind. I remember the early years when I essentially turned the drive into a luge run because I did not start off pushing stuff back far enough. I also learned that I move snow off the drive and put it on what is typically downwind. I have been caught out by snow storms that essentially fill in the drive and it might as well be concrete. Other little trick is I run the blade in reverse until the drive and lawn are good and frozen. Otherwise, I get too much gravel on the lawn or end up scalping things. Don't hurt yourself shoveling.
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 2 жыл бұрын
I already love the muffs! Yeah, I turn my blade around too until everything freezes hard. We do have one are that drifts pretty bad. Long term I’d like to plant a living snow fence to help.
@chrism.2231

@@vnthomas16 Well, coming from a guy in his early 50's, do not wait too long to plant something like that. Not if you want to benefit from it. Before we even had our house done, we planted an apple orchard with an eye on the future. Sure, seeing trees you planted mature makes you feel old, but beats the alternative. lol

Ya know how they do what you do in Wisconsin? The cows seldom or never leave the barn. I like how they do things in the West vs Midwest.

I’ve never seen a tie stall barn until I lived in Wisconsin. Out west, most dairies are freestall or bedded pack or outside lots.

@@vnthomas16 that U.P weather is definitely altogether different. Lake Superior had high winds this last week with waves up to 35' I believe. They closed the Mackinaw Bridge due to winds. Had 50 mph winds across the bridge surface.

They stay out. We’ve tried to bring them inside, and they just don’t like it. They both get real nervous in the barn. The way their corral is set up, they have good windbreaks for the winter winds, and of course the tree helps. Thanks for watching!
