As regards the plasma lighter. does the lighter need to be on when you remove the static?. Probably a silly question. Enjoying your enthusiasm for Russian records, comrade.

Yes it does need to be on but you hold the terminal end (wihere the blue charge leaps across) a good two inches above the surface of the vinyl. I 'zap' with the rcord balanced on my hand but I've seen people use their turntable. After getting reacquainted with Tchaikovsky I started exploring other noneteenth century Russians. Then, seeking out Melodiya label issues was a natural progression.

@@Perfectvirgo Thanks for the advice about the lighter. I probably will not wave it anywhere near my cartridge. I recently got a Melodiya record of an obscure,but world-class female violinist. The Russians train more world-class players than any other country. Anyway,this record was issued with nine different sleeve designs. All of them were interesting and eye-catching. Russia would be my ideal place to go shopping for vinyl.

@@heifetz14 Yes I'd go there too, in a heartbeat. I have around 20 LPs on the Melodiya label and lots on the East German Eternia label. All are great quality and the orchestral playing is sublime.
