Great to see the teamwork between you and your dad! Unloading and stacking 13 loads of straw is no easy task. Keeping the straw dry and getting it into the shed right away definitely makes a difference. Good job!

Another very enjoyable video, thank you! Watching the finely choreographed "dance" of the "Lulls" (tele-handlers) was mesmerising! Kudos to the op's! Smart (successful) farmers always draw organic materials TO themselves, rather than selling it off-site in exchange for vaporous, inflationary "bucks" ---- AWAY from themselves! I'm sure you're utilizing all that good "stuff" (after improving/innoculating it with beneficial bacteria) on your own lands, or on those you control. Black gold....and I'm envious.

Hi Piet. It seems all the farms I follow have been hauling massive silage from the fields in big numbers, as of late. How much silage / hay have you got baled/bagged/bunked ?? I know Jan in Asquith, yesterday said they had over 2 years feed stored up, and they have just begun to harvest most of their crops. They are producing from 85 to 87% from the fields.

We haven't started corn silage, I'm planning to start next week. Yields look to be good, we'll be in good shape on feed inventory.

Anytime in late September or early October, depending on the year. We typically see our first frost in the beginning of October.

Question you can't do two at the time?🤔
@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer90474 ай бұрын
When stacking in the shed, we take 2 bales at a time. When uloading, sometimes we'll take 3 at a time.

So, do you feed the straw after its mixed with other feed ingredients? Other than fiber/roughage, the straw has no nutritional value?
@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer90473 ай бұрын
Yes, the straw is mixed with other ingredients in the feed wagon. It's doesn't have much nutritional value.
