You don't really miss Dime until you hear his voice, thanks for the video

I went to school with Darrell. I miss him when I watch Kayla play his material. I can see his legato technique in her style.
@ianfurqueron58502 жыл бұрын
If Zakk wanted to play Dime's solo's note for note, he could. He did learn pretty much all of Randy's solos note for note when he joined Ozzy and he has said in interviews that he generally doesn't stray far from them. My guess is there is some underlying reason he is doing his own thing with Pantera. It may be left over from some conversation he had with Dime ages ago. Maybe we'll know some day. maybe not.
@Ontariosound2 жыл бұрын
I would call it a rude awakening for Zakk. He has been plugging away on BLS, Ozzy and Sabbath for so many years. But Dime's playing is on a different technical level. Sure, Randy's solos are epic. But Dime was just incredibly fast and accurate on Rhythm tracks and Leads.
@chrissavage93492 жыл бұрын
I think its the simple fact that yes he could play note for note but its still not going to sound spot on let alone if he played that way he wouldn't have as much emotion it would sound robotic him playing his own way and adding his own feel is much better then trying to sound just like dime even dime would tell him van halen man!!!!! Wich was code for let it all hang out dime would rather see zak leaving it all on stage and doing his own thing rather then being robotic with no emotion and playing note for note its the mess ups and the different nuances of zaks style that makes it a creative fun experience
@midnitelitecompany2 жыл бұрын
If you watch his last couple performances, he has actually learned three or four damn near note for note. Whereas the first few were him improvised. My guess is he saw a lot of folks complaining about it so he had someone help him do his homework.
@Blade2vampirerave2 жыл бұрын
It’s probably cause he is doing his thing and people would bitch if he covered dimes solos note for note

Alex Lifeson can go from pure shred to a Limelight type of solo where a single note just reaches deep into your soul. He's one of my favorite guitarists as well!
@DogeDelecto2 жыл бұрын
Ty Tabor?! Man, that is some ultra-rare-deep-cut-influence in terms of modern metal guitarists.
@Ontariosound2 жыл бұрын
As with the truly great guitarists, Ty always is always able to create his signature sound. He went from Solid State Lab amps to Mesa Rectifiers to Orange amps. That is a wiiiide spectrum of tones. But Ty always sounds like Ty. Brilliant player.
@DogeDelecto2 жыл бұрын
Oh no doubt, the guy is an absolute beast of a blues-shredder. As far as"tube vs solid state" stuff goes, i think most of that stuff is superfluous to one obtaining a "good" tone or "sound". I think phrasing , muting and overtones/harmonics from playing-style is what matters the most. For example, my playing style uses a lot of what i call "false-pinch" harmonics which is basically like a pinch harmonic that doesn't quite make it into the notes sustain, thus causing a brief overtone on the note's attack. Of course, i am hardly the first guy to do this, you can hear EVH and tons of 80's guys doiing it.
@Ontariosound2 жыл бұрын
@@DogeDelecto Ty’s hands and fingers are the key. Just like what Alex Lifeson said back in the 80’s when asked what his favourite pedal was. His reply was “My right hand”. Soft picking to hard downpicking is the best way to modulate a high quality tube amp.

Yep same school of thought as myself as far as learning most of a song by ear and only turning to tabs when you get stuck. I also find that it's definitely quicker to learn a song that way, because trying to learn an entire song using tab only would take forever. I actually learned how to play a pinch harmonic by accident and spent more time figuring out how I did it by accident. Great content once again. Keep up the good work!

I remember first learning solos in college in the early 90s. No real internet tabs yet, not many tab books, not that I could afford em anyway. Nope, i sat there with a CD player double -tapping the pause button to hear it note by note. Rewind, do it again, pick out a few more notes. Took forever, but it gives you a good ear! I always enjoy your videos. You're cool and talented, keep up the good work!

Girl you really are the new authority on dime's licks and solos. I read your interview with guitar world? I can't remember what site, but dude, you are too humble. Domination and cemetery gates should be playing on those gigs with Pantera, two of their best songs. I know it'd be a bit of a far shot, but we as your fans have failed you by not petitioning Phil and Zak to get you up on stage for those two songs when they play in Texas. I hate to toot my own horn, but I got one hell of an ear and your playing is nearly perfect in relation to dime. Please keep your awesome attitude if you get all famous 😌 the world needs more real and pure talented players like you!😊

You rule Kayla, I'm 35 and have been playing for 20 years and your lead work pretty much blows me away haha. Limp Bizkit is actually pretty cool, especially instrumentally. Plus Terry Date's production on Significant Other was excellent as always. I was wondering, do you like Marty Friedman? I love his phrasing and note selection- he has a similar kind of slinky, drunken phrasing as Dime sometimes. I feel like he would have actually played the Pantera stuff really well. I also love Chris Poland- his playing sounds like a fusion keyboard player or something. My 2 favorite Megadeth guitarists by far. Keep up the good work!

u know, i shouldve included chris poland there. that guy is on another level and SO DISTINCT with his playing, you can hear his leads a mile away just like dime.

That track Limp Bizkit did with Method Man and DJ premier was actually really nice, at least for the early 2000s. Fred Durst gets a lot of hate, but Bizkit was almost iconic for a hot minute at the turn of the century.

Damn dude, thanks for answering my question about the routine thing! I've only been playing for more than a year, but I've gotten my rhythm playing far better than my lead playing (still not the best overall, but I'd like to get better soon)! I wanna learn more solos, but I've been tempted to learn them quick, and I've found out I'm still very sloppy. Definitely taking your advice and gonna work my way up no matter how long it takes, thanks Kayla!

Glad to see a new post from you, been a minute. You have some great musicians that has influenced your playing. I love watching Zakk on the new videos of Pantera, he might not be nailing every solo note for note. It's Zakk's twist on his playing. Dime would be & is proud of his performance so far and its only getting better with every show. Put it this way, if Dime was sitting in for Zakk (tables turned) it would still sound like Dime playing the solos with his twist on things. Look at the Hype of Van Halen with Satriani playing Edwards solos if it did happen. Its going to sound like Joe playing Edwards parts.... Keep up the great post & everyone have a safe and joyful Holidays!!🤘🤘🤘

I still share Zakk's sentiment toward limp b. Other than Allison Change, the minute Nivarna hit the scene, the music died. Jerry Cantrell and his buddies get a very rare hall pass. I was an 80s teen and started playing in 85. George Lynch, Jake, Warren, and the rest of the hair gunslingers were the schitt. It was such a privilege to be learning as these bands were just coming out on Mtv.
