More than an AED - Avive's Story

The co-founders of Avive, Rory Beyer, Moseley Andrews, and Sameer Jafri came together with a seemingly simple idea - that anyone can and should be able to positively impact the outcome of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) rescue.
Pursued by their complementary skills and background, they met at a conference focused on SCA prevention and quickly came together to share a vision for the profound impact that a more effective solution could have on thousands of families every year. The three co-founded Avive in 2017, bringing a fresh approach to a massive public heath issue.
Despite tackling this massive and complex public health issue, which has had the same dismal survival rate of 10% for decades, Avive does so with optimism and fervor. Fueled by the words and experiences of those whose lives have been impacted or lost to SCA, the Avive team simply refuses to accept the status quo, working relentlessly to move the needle on survival rates.
In November 2023 Rory, Moseley and Sameer were recognized in the Forbes 30 Under 30 class of 2024. The tagline for Forbes’ Healthcare category is “saving lives and creating a more equitable future,” which is precisely what drives us each and every day.

Put them on drones that are placed at fire stations throughout the city. Delivery to the scene faster than someone can respond in their car or by walking.

But how is the AED activated to start its alarm? Does the 9-1-1 center have to contract some software or do you activate through an app as 1st responder asking for support?

Great question! Developed in partnership with RapidSOS, Avive Intelligent Response allows 911 telecommunicators to “dispatch” nearby Avive Connect AEDs to patients in need and receive valuable data from the AED during a rescue. Beyond dispatching Avive AEDs to cardiac arrest emergencies, 911 telecommunicators also have the option to pass the device's GPS location and critical incident data during the emergency to first responders to help improve response and outcomes. Owners can opt-out of this feature if its not desired. This feature is only available in participating jurisdictions. Contact us to find out if its available in your area.
