Can't fault his love or dedication to compete again after being demoted. It shows how ruthless it can be to not only get into the national team for the bigger nations but keep your place. He never gave up and I'm glad he managed to achieve his dream of competing in another Olympics. But mostly the impact he had on the Belgian biathlon team is his lasting legacy. Only have to look at Aleksander Fjeld Anderson as a recent example of someone who once they lose their place in the A team for their nation don't see a way of being able to regain their place and end up retiring.

I've often wondered what the Biathlon WC would be like if it followed a hybrid cycling/soccer (football) model. Allow companies to sponsor teams and sign players of any ability regardless of nation. There would be several tiers of leagues and teams/players can compete to move up and down as their ranking dictates.
