More Tips on buying FedEx Ground routes in 2022

I'm Mike Jones, I'm a 34 year veteran of RPS/FedEx Ground. I sold my 3 corporations in 2021 and I would like to pass a few tips on buying or starting FedEx Ground Routes. I started with RPS/FedEx Ground in 1987 probably before a lot of FedEx drivers were alive. I was glad to help the company grow through the years. Hopefully, you will help me grow my channel. That was great information Mike. Like the gentleman from Alaska mentioned, they can recall or cancel a route at will, I assume. You could pay big money for something that may vanish. I really enjoy your videos, and your business acumen is fantastic.

I think that was a major market shift for FedEx to pull out of the region. As a whole I think the business model for FedEx Ground is still very stable.

Great short video Mike! Thank you for sharing. Hope your still active and answering questions. I'm looking at FedEx P&D routes as a new business venture for my wife and I. We currently subsidize my income as an IT Professional, with real estate investment, rental homes. Which has been good, but the cost of acquiring more homes is becoming more costly as rates are rising Wondering if you could give us an idea of what some of the more challenging aspects are for owners, the potential headaches of the Job? Also, what is the likely hood that current contracted routes would be "pulled" from a certain contractor and essentially make my investment worthless. We are currently looking at routes for sale, unsure if their dedicated/guaranteed routes or not. All have been in place an owned for several years We are not expecting to be absentee or semi absentee, but do expect to not have a completely full time job on our hands. The routes we are looking at, do have Managers in place and drivers. Any feedback would be appreciated. Again thank you for the video!

3 is the minimum. In Canada same thing. I am an actual Linehaul Contractor in Canada. I own only two Runs. I sold two Team Runs. Operate five units. Four working and one spare. Do not want any more. Too hard to get drivers here.

I understand that it's harder now to get drivers than it was a few years ago when I was a contractor. 34 years of contracting and it got tougher every year. Thank goodness I sold and retired.

If getting into FedEx Ground for the first time, would you recommend looking for a single dedicated solo linehaul run with a current driver? It seems like this would be a reasonable way to learn the business with (relatively) lower risk, versus the more complex situation of managing multiple runs, multiple drivers and tractors, team runs and so forth.

Unfortunately they won't let you start a new business with only one truck. The minimum is 3 and I've heard rumor it may go to 5.

@@MichaelJones1527 I heard that as well. However, Ialso heard they let you open your own business if you have a dedicated run and one spare truck. Is there anyway we can confirm this? Any website or number to call and verify it?

@@yildirim1024 If you are buying a dedicated route then you should be able to work with the management team at what ever terminal that you are buying the route from.

Hi thanks for this videos I'm learning about this fedex line haul, I'm in the process of purchasing unassigned line haul teams with no equipment included or drivers, how would I be able to make it dedicated? would the dispatcher give us more work depending on our performance.

Dedicated or assigned runs are usually posted in the terminal that you work at. They are based on truck points which you should have some if your contractor that you bought from is selling you his slot and also your safety record.

Hello Mike, I recently retired from FedEx Express after 34 years as an Operations Manager. In your opinion, Would my experience help me in being successful as a Ground Contractor if I pursue purchasing Ground routes? I would not be an absentee owner.

It would, my question is how old are you? If you're still relatively young then go for it. If you're retirement age like I am then I would not. The stress that you felt as a OP will still be there and maybe more if you are an owner. Your experience will be very helpful, it's just depends on how much stress you want to put on yourself. That's just my opinion.

No you do not, nor do you have to be a CDL driver, but you have to be approved by FedEx to be a contractor and buy routes.
