We had a great tour on our first day around Varkala with our good friend Arun. Our first stop at Varkala Beach brought up some questions that we have for the locals. We heard after our visit to Varkala beach that this is a radioactive beach!? We're very confused please can you let us know if you are from Kerala if this is true. We hope not as Nyh was playing in the sand! Boat on the backwaters and some traditional south Indian food was absolutely incredible. And it was all washed down with a couple (4) bottles of toddy 🇮🇳 A big thank you to Arun and his family 🖤

It's naurally occuring Thorium Oxide and has been washed up on the beaches over the many many years. Nothing to worry about. It's not the by product of any Nuclear Reactor or other such things. Mostly, washed from the deep ocean floor. ThO2 is used in many industries like ceramic, non-silica glass, filament in light blubs etc. So, I don't think that any harm would have been done to Nyn. Else the locals wouldn't taken you there or at least warned you.

The black part of the sand on the Varkala Beach contains Thorium-oxide which is a radioactive substance. Thorium and Thorium-oxide and its isotopes are found all over Kerala and can be identified by its black colour. Its extensively found along the western coast of India especially Kerala. Not to worry though. 🙂💝 We've been living here most of our lives and not mutated yet 😃😉

These all chaos only in cities of kerala but if you come to the rural area it is much more silent and peaceful. Kerala's rural area is more beautiful and less poverty than other north indian rural areas

The Toddy stall in Kerala is a haunt for locals and now patronised by tourists too. The food that the Toddy Shop has offered you in order are _ Squid, Beef, Duck, Chicken, Marinated prawns (which would be prepared into a spicy stir fry), Tuna fish curry, Tapiocca, Red Boiled Rice, Mixed Vegetables which presumably is Avial, another Fish curry, Fried Fish, Cabbage Thoran, Rasam (which is like a soup prepared with tamarind, garlic and a whole lot of spices), and Moru which is watered down yoghurt spiced with green chillies, shallots, ginger and lime. I miss my country. Food in every nook and cranny and so so diverse. Food in Kerala is prepared with coconut oil and fresh coconut and curry leaves so the flavour is very distinct, even the vinegar is from coconut or toddy. Surprised that crab and pipis were not on that list as the pipi and crab is a must in a Toddy Stall by the waterside. The fat rice is different from the Indian basmati and a must with any Kerala meal.

6:07 That needs a permanent solution here in Varkala and Kappil beaches. Trash is everywhere and its worse now. They placed trash bins and people stole that also. Sadly international tourists has reduced in kovalam and varkala. They shifted to more cleaner beaches of Thailand and Bali. Authorities pls do something!!

If you are exploring Kerala, kindly do visit Munnar, Thekkady, Vagamon, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Malom, Silent Valley National Park, Thalassery and Ranipuram. Worth Visiting Places especially now during Winter Seasons. Weather over there is very pleasant and cooler.

yeaaaaa you did it right, i mean you hit up some good dishes. Hope the weather changes, I think they say that the best time is January-March or something like that when visiting kerala. Hope you get some sun. Now you still need to try beef fry and parotta 😋. There is Thattakada chicken fry, Appam and chicken curry (many styles , but try a few of them cause everyone's different and likes different things).

Beaches in Varkala region contains radio active substances. But nothing to worry about it for spending few hours. Toddy is collected from the flower of coconut tree. Toddy tapper will beat the flower for few days and then cut it open, the sap will ooze out from the cuts and it is collected in a container. It will get fermented naturally over time. Names of dishes in Kerala varies from region to region. Taste also varies slightly. You must try a Biriyani from Northern regions of Kerala like Malappuram, Calicut or Kannur.

You can also look at other You tube videos for "coconut tapping' for extracting the sugar drinks. These drinks can ferment very easily and should be drinkable within 24 hrs for a sweet taste.

That seeds are called sabja seeds (basil seeds). It will keep your body cool. That's why most of the cold drinks we use to drink are mixed with sabja seeds. You drank sarbath ( common name for local made cold drink)

In toddy shop the Dishes they make extra spicy to sell more toddy the when it spicy people buy more toddy and also They keep fish curry overnight so all the spices and tamarind taste can absorb in the fish and beef also they start sell as Beef rost but it keep cooking by the evening it become beef fry so yummy 🙂❤

I could drink Toddy every day!!! I love the taste of it. it is a bit like a beer to me. Absolutely delicious when served chilled. I don't particularly like it when it is warm.

Brother - The toddy's shops serve the best local food at a higher spicy level to entertain the sweet coconut drinks to flavor-down the hot-food as you eat. Nowadays the Toody shops helps, the families with kids to come to the shops. In the olden time, Toddy shops where local and not culturally entertaining to the families. Now it has changed due to the food taste and socially adaptive cultural changes in Kerala as a whole. And they also provide least fermented and high quality coconut drinks that suit all the families members (but Not kids). You are having the best local non-veg in the south of India. More or less... like Grandma's cooking with high spice and heat levels. Try a Kerala Sadhya on a banana leaf, if you can at a good restaurant.

You’re supposed to eat the beef with parathas, if you eat it on its own of course it’s going to be very spicy! Eat the spicy dishes with rice, or tapioca or paratha.

Pleaae visit Andaman islands before you leave India. You will be amazed it is world tourist spot. Scuba diving and parasailing and home to many tribe and only isolated tribe. Best for seafood. Andaman Radhanagar beach is worlds best beach 🏝
