More victims identified in DC plane, helicopter crash

It’s been a heart breaking day. 2 people from my office were on the plane. They both retired recently and were so excited to be supporting their son and his figure skating aspirations. While I’m so sad for their surviving daughter I comfort myself they were all living their dreams.

It happened so quickly. I imagine they didn’t even have time to be told to brace for impact. That impact and fireball would have killed mercifully quickly.

For certain, a few seconds of terror before impact for the passengers on the right side of the airplane who were looking out the windows. The helicopter hit the plane directly from the side, so imagine sitting in your seat watching the city lights just before landing. And you see the bright lights of another aircraft flying towards your plane, growing brighter as it gets closer and closer in the dark night sky. May God rest their souls and comfort their grieving families. How awful.

What they meant, was that not the ones were not important. That person thinks somebody was in that plane, and it was hit on purpose. That's why they were asking that particular question.

ATC was spread really thin. Trumps layoffs hit the FAA too last week, I know someone who works as an ATC and he said it's chaos right now because of Trumps mew policy. "I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner honestly. The last 10 days have been VERY chaotic and difficult. I've never seen it this bad" Is what he said

From everything that I have read and listen to, the helicopter, which was a military helicopter, it should have been able to see the aircraft. That's what they are trained to do. They were told to get out of the way and the helicopter did not. It's all so confusing

I’m a helicopter pilot and this wasn’t caused by crowded airspace, it was caused by pilot error. This is the aviation equivalent of someone seeing a red light at a crowded intersection and plowing through it.

@ regardless of if the airspace was crowded or not, coordinating aircraft across final approach of an active runway is not a good idea. The crash itself was caused by pilot error, yes, but that doesnt mean this event couldnt have been prevented by better routing. Im a pilot as well, and having traffic crossing my flight path on final would make me uneasy, especially at night. There are also published military routes around where i fly, none of which pass in front of active runways or in the vicinity/CTR of an active aerodrome.

I am so sorry that our president placed blame on prior administration, instead of, like most humans, acknowledged the human grief to family members and friends of the victims and offered condolences.
