I think the council needs to do a national marketing advert campaign to get visitors to visit. You can invest in shop buildings, but if people do not know where and what Morecambe does, they won't go. It happened with Rhyl in Wales, which was very popular and is now a quiet place. Morecambe does so many great events shame it is not recognised, more better than our areas

Totally agree. The town could be amazing but it's like the council don't care.

Very interesting video. I lived at Scale Hall in the 1960s and used to get taken to Morecambe very often. It was always best if we caught the train from Scale Hall station because that meant we were going straight to the beach. If it was the bus then it was a walk down Euston Rd from the bus station for my mother to do shopping with the hope of going to the beach afterwards. There was no Arndale centre then and too many shops for my mother to browse! A friend's father had a stall on the market which was near the bus station selling suiting material which he bought in Bradford. He also had a small holding on Morecambe Rd from which he sold salad stuff to the hotels in Morecambe, principally The Kings Arms Why did plonking an Arndale centre in the middle of towns always seem to mark the beginning of the end for them?

It is very sad to see what morecambe has become, I (Baz) used to come to morecambe on holiday and I loved it so much I decided to move there at age 21, I still love the views across the bay but the town is in a very dire state now

So last week me n wife had a drive out to morecambe. Not been anywhere near for years. Wow that isnt the morecambe i remember. Walking through the arndale center n it was like being an extra in a zombie film !!! Seafront shops boarded up, dog shit all along the prom, spose the prom highlight these days is the LIDL !!! Had to see it for myself after watching this vid, so thank you.

Morecambe is and always has been 2 different things, Morecambe Town and Morecambe Bay. The town like most seaside towns has had its ups n Downs. The Bay however, Has always had and will always have some of the Greatest Sunsets in the World...

Sams was a great fish and chip shop. It wasn’t “ closed down “ it closed because of personal reasons. Morecambe is my home town. Watch the house price s rise when the Eden project comes to the seafront. The council really needs to spend lots of money on improving the town centre .

My dad lived in Morecambe for thirty years. We would visit with the kids and the highlight, apart from seeing grandad, was the fair! Morecambe was killed off when the fair closed down. The promenade is lovely but everything else is just awful. We last went to Morecambe three years ago and stayed for the weekend. The town is dreadful. The people have changed. Dog friendly? Nah …. And the cafe’s only take cash! Pinning hopes on the new Eden Project won’t bring the punters in. It’s a shame but the Golden Goose (the fair) has gone and so has the public. That was our last visit.

Same all over Britain now !!! Everyone wanted them nice out of town retail parks didnt they !!! Hows that working out ? I have very fond memories of Morecambe. As a child we holidayed there every year. It had 2 long piers with everything on them. It had 2 fairgrounds. The pleasureland on the front and another behind the winter gardens. Wow it was an awesome place brings me happy memories. Shame now these coastal towns full of the drug addled underclass ! The no hopers, unworkables ! We certainly took the Great away from Britain didnt we !!!

Yeah it was a great vid you did. Entertaining n showing how it is today. Blackpool the same. Walk literally yards from the prom n its a different world !!! Nobody in position cares anymore. Theres just no pride. Theres very little regeneration n all they do is blame it on someone else n cry that theyve got no money !! Yet it seems all the contracts they draw up with they,re friends always seem to be beneficial to their lifestyles !!!

Had some smashing family holidays in Morecambe, years back. Stopped in a wonderful flat in Northumberland Street by the train station. We went back in 2018, unfortunately it was even more in decline, the town centre was full of drunks & smackheads. Still think the beach and prom are beautiful though.
