I read in Zorba The Greeks autobiography that he was deeply hurt that he'd never been approached to appear in any television plays what Ern wrote, he also expresses regret at Shirley Bassey giving them his number, Shirley Bassey goes on to play Lulu in the quarter final

Absolutely hilarious comedy from Eric and Ernie, totally spontaneous, no joins , unlike Ernies hair ,hard to keep up with the jokes, so much is delivered by Erics facial expressions ,no one can keep a straight face on his show !!
@vincentharriman32834 ай бұрын
Most of the show was scripted including most of Eric's seemingly adlibbed comments. However most of their timing was such that you'd be hardpressed to notice, which was why they were so popular. It stemmed from hard work over the years.

The sketches in the flat was my favourite of all there sketches 😀👍.
@johnking51743 жыл бұрын
That was down to their writer Eddie Braben, who when he joined them in 1969 felt they needed to have a home life. And what better way than to have them live together in a flat.
@vincentharriman32834 ай бұрын
@@johnking5174the BBC were concerned about that, especially when they're in bed. Eric suggested he smoke a pipe in bed which seemed to satisfy the BBC. (A similar scenario would occur in the ITV sitcom Robin's Nest when the then unmarried characters Robin and Vicky were seen in a state of undress in bed.)

I am sure that if you were to show this to anyone from another country you'd just get stony faces. It's very hard to explain comedy like this which relies so much on taking quite ordinary sentences and words and turning them into something else entirely.

just imagine being back in these days again. Did anyone speak about the New World Order? Anyone speculate about Annunaki Aliens, Skull & Cross Bones. Did the television brain wash us, or just make us happy. We had 3 channels in those days, and did we need any more? The quality of television was very high. Why did we let this situation go? there are more of us than there is of them. Let's bring back the good life! Be satisfied with less, which was really much more. Bring back the quality life.

To make things clear as it seems there are a few people on these video comments section who are targeting Eric Morecambe's politics. First, Eric very rarely ever did political jokes with Ernie. Second, he gave Thatcher kind words after her 1979 win as many other entertainers did. Eric was no hard line right winger, far from it. But after the 1978-1979 winter of discontent, many supported Thatcher in 1979.

I wonder if what Ern says about Eric being good company for about five minutes and then getting tiresome is based on truth. From what I have heard, Eric was always 'on' and it must have got very wearing for most people who don't want to be like that all the time.

See someone is going to get very angry at me for saying this because society hates autistic people, but the dynamic between these two very closely resembles what it can be like having/being an autistic friend. I've had plenty of experiences as both Eric and Ernie- either being stubbornly committed to a bit and making it everyone's problem, or being so stubbornly against the bit that the one's more the fool for being so wound up over it. I don't know if Eric had any kind of autism, but he was still a great inspiration to me as a comedian.
