Hikaru, Levy and co need to get their act together. What are they expecting? Botvinik lost his title 3 times, Tal couldnt put any resistasnce as early as his first world title defense, spassky was obliterated by fisher, and kasparov couldn't land a blow on Kramink during the WHOLE MATCH!! The comments of influencers like hikaru, magnus and levy just acting disgusted with ding or gukesh's play are really detrimental to chess! It's like these people can never be satisfied. Yesterday gukesh wins a perfect game where he literally made 1 mistake, and magnus says it's not a good game of chess. Today both players play with 98+ accuracy and hikaru complains. Honestly!

Well in defense of Hikaru, Magnus, Anish, Nepo etc. and all the other top players at that level (so, not Levy), being them all very close to each other in playing strength, they criticise the matches as their equals. So they are going to go on long rants on criticising their play.

"Detrimental to chess"? Why / How? He is VERRY critical of all the decisions. He disagrees with a LOT of them, which may actually give people insight into why he is not a World Champion... If he sat here, biting his tongue whenever he dissatisfied, we wouldn't learn anything and imo this would be a pointless video. I would like Ding's lack of (confidence in himself-) 'speaking English' to be taken into account more, but that is just a small detail.
@dimitarbushkalov238017 сағат бұрын
@@nanskate It's not about Magnus, Levy or Hikaru being critical. That's more than welcome and I prefer people who speak their mind, like Hikaru does. However, he, Magnus and Levy are degrading the value of the championship match after every-single-game, which is a different story altogether. After game 1 magnus said "it's hard to understate how bad gukesh played". After game 3 he said again "this is objectively not a good game of chess"; after games 2 and 4 they are complaining again. Opinions must be more balanced. Watch the video of Kramnik for example or for Daniel King, both seasoned in WOrld Championship (as a player and commentator). Their takes are still interesting without devaluing the bid for the titile.

Some commenters who are angry are allergic to analysis. It is observed Gukesh has better prep each game (even the 1st game he lost), while Ding has worse prep especially with Black; this means based on the analysis thus far, Ding needs to push when he has White pieces, thus why Hikaru was shocked when Ding said his plan was to be safe with White (because he is out prepped with Black so he needs to push when he has White). This is such a basic concept and it would shock anyone who is into the match. If you guys watch sports, you will get angry when the coach makes a seemingly stupid decision and you're just a casual viewer. Hikaru's playing level is at the level of Fabi, Nepo, Ding so why can't he criticize the obvious when a couch potato at home can?

I think that nowadays, there is too much of, "I disagree with what person A said, so I'll give them some kind of pejorative label". There is no counter-argument. I like your sporting analogy. Reminds me of how frustrated I got with some of Gareth Southgate's decisions during England's football games in the European Championships earlier in the year. I do wonder though whether modern chess has become more about avoiding one's opponent prep than going in with their best weapons. Ding was basically playing a reverse Queen's Indian Defence! That seemed more about avoiding Gukesh's prep than trying to establish a clear advantage out of the opening.

@15:34 - "I'm from THE ORGANIZATION". What? Which organization in the world is so prominent that it is referred to as simply "the organization"?
@renishisrael952017 сағат бұрын
Many are acting as though Gukesh and Ding are better than Hikaru. Do you even know that ding also has never won candidates? Also you are acting as though hikaru has not achieved something special where gukesh has, which is winning candidates by 0.5 pts. I agree that the result is great for gukesh, does not take anything away from naka
@log-9078 сағат бұрын
i dont disagree that much, but ding beat hikaru for second in candidates, he has gone through much more adversity. hikaru never won a wc match, ding has. gukesh beat hikaru in this candidates. hikaru is being arrogant not bc he is worse than either of them, but because he has never been in this situation of a wc before, therefore doesn't understand the stress.
@renishisrael95206 сағат бұрын
@@log-907 yeah i partially agree with you. Hikaru should be a little more calm. But, Gukesh did not beat hikaru in candidates

everyone buzzing about Gukesh vs. Ding, but let’s take a step back see Even the greatest legends have stumbled under pressure. Magnus Carlsen admitted to playing poorly in Game 1 of the World Championship and famously blundered against Nepomniachtchi in the 2021 Candidates. Hikaru Nakamura, despite being a blitz king, missed a mate-in-one against Caruana in the 2016 Sinquefield Cup. Remember Garry Kasparov’s shocking loss to Deep Blue in 1997, or his blunder against Kramnik in the 2000 World Championship that cost him the title? Even Vishy Anand, one of the most consistent players ever, faltered under pressure against Carlsen in 2013. This is part of a game and we should not forget that everyone has there own playstyle. U can’t give an input or be rude if he is not playing with ur style. No one makes a plan how to loose a championship. So instead of giving your opinion we should sit back and enjoy the championship matches 😊

Hikaru is arrogant and so overbearing! Some people want to be the center of attention, while others don’t want to be the center of anything. To condemn Ding, who epitomizes a gracious, respectful, Gentle Giant; speaks volumes of Hikaru’s arrogance and lack of respect. That’s why Ding is at the Press Conference and Hikaru is our typical shallow hollow.
@narujohn698411 сағат бұрын
Whether one agrees with Hikaru Nakamura or not but we should appreciate his boldness in expressing what he truly feels. That's what makes him entertaining and engaged. So, don't be hard on him guys.

Ding will be considered the WEAKEST Champion in the History of Chess. He should be banished from Chess which he WILL be after this tournament. Gukesh vs. many worthy opponents would be watchable. The Ding Kid will retire. There is nothing worse than an athlete who has no hunger and desire to win which Ding typifies.

I don't know about chess but in other 1v1s in games it is common to poke and prod and play safe with full intention to pull out all the tricks coming into the end. We will have to wait and see if Gukesh can prove the advantage with white and put the pressure on Ding to make a comeback early. I thought this was an interesting opening and response. Also if you knew you were outplayed in the commonplace openings then it makes sense to get up to par on the odd openings and squeeze for an advantage or possible time troubles.

It is so strange to watch one of the best chess players of the age comment on this match. Same with Magnus. It just seems so odd to feel like the world champions may not be the very best. And then these guys who are so skilled have to not sound arrogant. Yet it feels like they almost cannot help sounding that way if they say anything at all about a mistake on the board or have a difference in opinion.
@kingslayer336519 сағат бұрын
I think playing it safe is not a bad strategy from Ding. Most would agree the closer the match gets to rapid tiebreaks the greater his chances

Hikaru Magnus etc are expert Chess Pundits. So they have every right to express their views as per their discretion. We as audience should not judge them rather enjoy the diverse information to enhance the joyous WC coverage like every other sport, experts should be free to express themselves. Its good for the sport as a whole.
