That video is over ten years old. They really should update it. In the meantime, MiWuLa became Germany’s No. 1 tourist attraction and they have grown to almost double the size shown in the promo-clip. Its really second to none and admission is very affordable. If you come, try to book one of the „behind the screen“-tours, where visitors can see how everything works.

No that's not true, MiWuLa is on place 7 or something with 1.4 million visitors, around the same as Schloss Neuschwanstein. The Kölner Dom for example has 4.3 million visitors.

The two guys who own the Miniatur Wunderland, Freddy and Gerrit, they owned one of Hamurgs biggest night clubs before they started this amazing project, but they wanted to do something more relaxing. They don't have too much time or too much money, they just love what they're doing.

The airport even has a Millennium Falcon and its landing gets announced by the Star Wars theme song. 😅 Their love for detail is overwhelming. There's also a model of the Swiss chocolate factory Lindt & Sprüngli where you can see "giant" chocolate bars getting wrapped in foil and paper and when you press the button the conveyor belt moves forward and you get a piece of chocolate. 🍫 After also building Italy and starting with Monaco they ran out of space. So they've rented a storey of the warehouse at the other side of the canal and connected it with a glass walkway. There they're building a South American part with a family from Argentina. They've just opened the Patagonia and Antarctica part a few days ago, just in time for Hamburg's "harbour birthday" this weekend. Also every year in January people with low income get in for free.

It's not a matter of money, the founders are really passionate about it and the staff is too, you can see it in the details. There were companies that tried to replicate this, but they did it with financial benefit as a business in their head, that lead to a dull and boring experience. That's what made the Miniature Wunderland so different and fascinating.

Hello! I'm from Austria and I've been to Hamburg several times! You can always look into the miniature wonderland and you will discover something new again! There are of course many other sights in Germany/Hamburg, but this is not to be missed!!

Knuffingen Airport newest attraction? This section was opened in 2011. They added several more sections in the meantime. And Miniatur Wunderland is continously working on developing new technologies or improving older ones.

Jps, they just opened Patagonia and Antarktica. If you ever come to Hamburg, you might use a rainy day. Come early, there is a lot to see. I am happy, that I can visit it again, this year. As you said, this is so much more than a model railway. Today they even have a own hotel near by, including packages for entry tickets. Be safe and curious. Elmar from Germany

Da muss ich widersprechen. Am besten sind sonnige heiße Tage (Klimaanlage vorhanden) denn an regnerischen Tagen wollen alle ins Wunderland und es ist meistens sehr voll. 😄 Ich gehe meist sehr spät (nach 17 Uhr) und bleibe bis Ende. Wichtig ist das vorbuchen, wenn man nicht in der aschlange warten will. Und ebenfalls empfehlenswert ist die Schrumpftour durch das Wunderland. Man wird geschrumpft und föhrt mit einem Zug zum Teil durch die Modelllamdschaft

I visited Miniatur Wunderland with my parents around this time last May and we loved it, we were absolutely blown away by the attention to detail and the different sections. If you ever get the chance to visit, you definitely should. It's an experience I can wholeheartedly recommend!

Just wow! The attention to detail throughout the miniature wonderland is breathtaking. Credit to all those model makers and visionaries who painstakingly brought this gem to life. I hope to visit it someday. How on earth they maintain it, in terms of making sure dust doesn’t build up over the model infrastructure I have no idea. Before my dad passed away in 1988 when I was 15 yrs old he passed down to me some model trains and rail track etc because his illness prevented him during his retirement to build a model railway in our house. One of the trains I have is the Royal Scotsman in black. It’s in pristine condition, and it’s just left in my drawers, safely stored in a soft cloth with bubble wrap and cardboard packaging for storage.

When they started out they had one floor of the building. Over time they took over all floors and a while ago they added the Building accross the canal too. It completely does hold up against the hype because it's done by people who love what they're doing and are enthusiasts at building complex models and fun hidden gimmicks all over the areas. One of the latest things they premiered (i think) is a formula 1 simulation with self driving race cars that are actually racing instead of a fixed sequence. They had to order special custom platines and programm that in a lot of detail and it took years to complete. That's how dedicated they are. If you want to go there, book in advance!

It should be on everyone's "Bucket List". I saw it in 2015 and you really need to see it in person because videos do not come close to seeing it for yourself. The modeling is World Class and seeing the animation in addition to the trains is fantastic. You need to spend at least 6 hours in order to see everything. It is the biggest attraction in Germany.

My wife and I just came back to the US from seeing this place, and I have to completely disagree with you. 6 hours will not see everything, you could spend a week and not see and experience everything. This place was incredible. My favorite was the airport, but my wife loved the little Rio de Janeiro area (but to be fair she is from Rio de Janeiro.) This place was so incredible, and the staff were super nice too

3:38 In June 2012 I visited the guided tour at the airport, and when I saw that Thai A380 and having traveled to Thailand numerous times by Thai Airways, I said: "Oh you are ahead of time". The guide asked "Why??" "Well in real life Thai Airways will have the A380 not before November". The guide was shocked and said "Oh, I better don't tell the bosses, they would take it out until then, and that would be a shame, it is so beautiful". That shows that they want to have every detail as it is in real life. Another great example is the little gas station with the tiny price display. A computer downloads the prices from the website of the oil company every few hours and forwards it to the gas station. So creative!

And they invented things for real life (or at least without knowing that it is invented in real as well). I speak about the leading lights at the airport to get the planes from runway to their parking position and back.

Been there so many times I lost count. Did it live up to the hype? Nope, it easily outstrips the hype. It is far beyond what can ve conveyed by any video. They've got their own channel that gives regular updates on their current and upcoming projects. The two Braun brothers and their cofounder are still deeply involved on a day to day basis, still crawling through or under the panels, pulling wires, and getting their hands dirty. They just fulfilled their little boys' dreams and continue living it. That it makes them some good money which they constantly reinvest is a positive side effect for them, but it definitely isn't their main motivation.

The entrence fee is € 20 and absolutely worth it. You can easily spend a whole day there. But make sure to get your tickets booked online and early. Especially on weekends it is mostly sold out for weeks and if you don't have an electronic ticket you also have to queue up at the entrence for hours.

If you come to visit Hamburg, Miniatur Wunderland is a must. The film you have seen is old. They bought a warehouse at the other side of the canal, build a bridge an have Miniatur Patagonien. The exhibition is outstanding. So much to see. It's a must to visit it in Hamburg 🎉

I think the name Miniatur Wunderland was chosen because it works in both German and English. They have vehicles there that drive themselves. Each vehicle has a small motor, steering, battery, LEDs and CPU. The CPU is connected to the main computer by radio. The vehicles drive through the scenes and when the battery is low they drive back to the charging station. The vehicles find the road using magnetic strips, but they can still steer independently. The models are bought as exhibits and converted by hand by the team for driving operation.

I‘ve been there a couple of times. It‘s always a „must“ on my visits to Hamburg. Especially on summer break season, you need to apply for a day and time you want to admit entrance, otherwise you may end up in a queue of spontaneous visitors and could wait for quite some time. They want to have a certain amount of visitor per hour to ensure everyone can have the same experience watching the scenes and their little cute lovely „Easter eggs“ to say. They even expanded to another building with a bridge Inbetriebnahme the two sections. This whole new area is themed for South America at a glance. They have created Rio de Janeiro first with the well known carnival. Just last week, they have opened to the public Patagonia, Antarctica ad the so called „Drake Passage“, a very rough sea between South America and Antarctica. Oh BTW: They are building Monaco with the most famous Formula 1 race. The target is to have up to 20 individual vehicles running a race of their own with overtaking and pit stops. This project runs for several years now and still not finished. However, they have shown behind the scenes videos on KZbin on the development of this project.

Tickets are 20,- Euro for a day; kids under 15 years pay 12,50 Euro and kids below a meter are free. And they have a restaurant in there, so you don't have to leave to eat. They also have camera battery charging stations in tiny lockers, and just so many details that you'd probably need two days by now to see them all. A visit is definitely worthwhile. Only the MiWuLa has now become larger than in the old video. It now extends over two buildings. If you were there and still have time, the "Hamburg Dungeon" is right next door. It is an exciting attraction that takes you into Hamburg's dark past. True stories and dark figures bring the bad old days to life.

The entrance fee is quite reasonable. For just 20 euro you can visit and stay the whole day. Last time I visited when the corona lockdown was lifted. Bring some time or you will just rush through it. I normally stay between 2 and 4 hours per visit. Looking forward to the new section :)

My last visit - it was the fifth or sixth one - was in October last year. At this time the price was 24 Euro. But it is every Cent worth. You need at last one complete day for a first overview. In the italian section (realised later as this video was filmed) every model night a volcano eruption is to see. The newest section is South America, with Rio de Janeiro, Patagonia, the Drake Passage and a glacier who kalf. The Wunderlandians, so they call yourself, are crazy in the best way. I believe, just now are 360 people working on this place. Every visitor is going with bright eyes through the different worlds. I'm sure, you will do the same.

There are plenty of "easter eggs" if you look carefully. For example, at least two James Bond movie scenes (I think it was the cable car scene in Rio and the Boat hunt in Venice), but also other famous movie scenes. This is so cool.

I fucking love the Miniatur Wunderland❤ I went there in 2018 during the germany vs. mexico worldcup game. It was so beautifully empty and was able to try EVERY button there. So try to go during germany worldcup or eurocup games. 😂 It is so much fun, try to take a lot of time there and search for the funny easter eggs. Found a scene of a man flashing a cop during a traffic stop with a nun. And they have a mini-Miniatur Wunderland in the building in their remodel of Hamburgs habour ( with moving trains you can see through the window)

The model railroad is just the hook for the "miniature life" as stated from your end already. It is the world around the miniature railroad with its emphasized details which makes this a place to get to. As stated already in this comment section the video you had been reviewing is over 10 years old and doesn't refelct the current state by far. I had been there 2 times and it'll be not the last ones for sure since with every new section these guys are getting further and further.

I was there last feb for 20, 21 and 23 time and I'am sure that I didn't see it all!! They have now a bridge over the canel to a new Warehouse where they had build Rio de Janaero with it karneval, before that they had build Italy, with mount Vesuveus, every night this one errupt!! Yesterday they open Patagonia and Anartica with the Drake passage. So as you can see I'am looking forward for my next Holliday. They have Monaco with the Housing and anything else ready to open, but these maniacs don't wanna open it without a Formel one Race there, and when they say Race, they mean Race, with overtaking and so on and they work on it for 8 yaers now!! And for the opening of switzerland they had the Ambasador of Swiss there to open it, same for Italy and Hamburg, Iam not sure for the other parts.

I've visited the Miniatur Wunderland multiple times before and I will go again as soon as I get the chance. Like they said in the video there are many details to find and with each visit I alsways find some things that I haven't seen before. And with the size they have reached one day is hardly enough to see everything for first time visitors. I think the tickets cost around 20€. There are many specials that you can buy tickets for in combination with a visit at the Wunderland. There are even culinary tours through the Wunderland which also provides you with a look behind the scenes. But those are often sold out very fast.

You really should visit it! It is amazing. It is found by the twins Frederik and Gerrit Braun and they and their team really do all things there with big big passion... They build their own model-cars with detailed lights etc, they are developing on a formula-1-track in monaco for over 8 years now (may be it is done when you come? who knows...) - so many crazy stuff... And they are sooo sympathetic, always attentive and care for their employees and also visitors - they planned financially so good the last years - even the corona-lockdown-time over many month was no sooo big problem... in this time the MiniaturWunderland was closed, so they had no income (excepted that of selling discarded trains / wagons or something like that...) - the employees got "Kurzarbeitergeld" ("short-time allowance" - a financial help by government) and the Brown-twins said "hey, this is only about 60% of their usual income... but we pay 80% of their usual income because we saved enough money the last years and we don't wanna loose any employee - so we pay out our reserves" In January they have (i think every year...) the action "Ich kann es mir nicht leisten" / "I can not afford it" - so if you really cannot afford it, you go to the ticket-counter and say "I can not afford it" - they don't ask unpleasant questions or so - they just give you a ticket for free. they say "hey, it is really unpleasant for the people to say it out - we believe in the good in people and so we think the most of the people using this free entrance are really poor... and if there was an rich asshole between, he has to reconcile with his conscience..." and it is soo big: plan a whole day for visiting it!

I was there in 2010 with my parents for my birthday. It was an absolute fantastic experiance (I am train fan and to round it all up I got a remote controlled submarine in the gift shop). Though I think I already seen the airport then, but maybe I missremember this part as I have seen it online quiet a few times). When arriving at Hamburg Union Station the Metro Busline 6 brings you directly to the Miniature Wunderland, ask the Busdriver at which Bus Stop you will leave the Bus, but think on that the bus moves into Hafencity (Harbourcity). Metro Bus 6 has got at the inner City two different destinations in same direction.

Admission Tickets are: 20 EUR, up to 15 Years old 12,50 EUR, Childs below 1m height are free, since they must normally be lifted up to see something. It is really worth it. These guys had a crazy idea to set up the MiWuLa. But it was and still is their passion and love. At the beginning people travelled to Hamburg and alongside visited the MiWuLa, meanwhile many come to see MiWuLa and alongside visit Hamburg. Freddy and Gerrit not only run their business, they also care about the society. They prepared some scenes "for democracy", they made a video about "rescue alley" and so on. But the most impressive thing is the recurring January event when on certain dates (23 days in 2020) each and every one who is short on money can enter the MiWuLa for free. You first have to think about, "Can I afford it paying for MiWuLa?" If your conclusion is "No." you can go to the cashier and say or give a piece of paper: "I cannot afford it.". They just trust you and give a free entry. Your words are their proof. Just impressive.

It's really amazing, for me it was such an overload of cool things so I guess I didn't see almost everything. The details are sometimes so hidden, so they were from my eyes, because there was so much to see. Entrance was not so expensive, as far as I remember it was 15 € some years back. But you get a time slot of 1.5 or 2 hours, so you cannot stop at every point for very long time. Clear recommendation to visit.

This video is so outdated, they have built so many more sections already. You wont believe how fast they are growing. They even built a bridge from one building to another building because they ran out of space, and afaik they are working on a virtual enviroment where you as a visitor get a VR device so you can actually experience the whole thing from the inside as a passanger on the trains and stuff.

miniature building is serious business in Germany. There are a lot of "Vereine" (clubs) composed of people who do it together in their free time. The only downside is, that you need the space to store and/or display it.

The Miniatur Wunderland is a travel worth! It is in Hamburg, in the north of Deutschland, and when you are once in Deutschland, you can visit many other great places. Best time to come here is Juni, Juli or August. With best wishes from the Ruhrgebiet in the west of Deutschland.👋

For those who already visited: what's your advice on how to get in? According to their website, waiting times are several hours if you show up whenever you please (unless really early or late in the day). So they suggest to book a ticket in advance, but even then regular "Wunderland-only" tickets are sold out for all the half-hour arrival slots from 9:00 to 16:00/16:30 until October. Is it really that difficult to get in during those times? Or is it a strategy to sell more pricey tickets where you have to book and pay for an experience (e.g. guided tour) in addition to your ticket?

I don't think that a strategy to sell more pricey tickets would match the mindset of the founders - there is the "I can't afford it day" where you can get a ticket for free if you say you can't afford it. This day now spans over several days and is repeated over four weeks or so. Btw., my father and I visited the MiWuLa in 2013 without getting tickets in advance and we had to wait less than 15 minutes to get in …

Tractor pulling is not a thing in Germany, but I think it's a part of the America section. If you really will go there: You need an entire day. The guys behind the project are total philanthropists. Not a single dime from a bank loan. Everything financed from private money. But still not ridiculously overpriced.

If you can´t afford, it´s free to get in on some days of the year ;) Because the owners want everyone to be able to enjoy their Minitatur Wunderland, and letting some people in for free doesen´t hurt them at all financially.

Joel, I see that plenty of comments have mentioned how outdated this video is and have given you information about admission, how long you will need, etc. Yes, it is BEYOND anything this video conveys. I have been several times and never get tired of it (except physically!). Miniatur Wunderland is not only Hamburg‘s No. 1 attraction - it tops everything else in Germany, including Neuschwanstein. But Hamburg has plenty of other attractions to offer. If and when you come to Germany, you must come here! I came here after graduating from UT Austin and have lived here ever since. I have never stopped, and will never stop, singing the city‘s praise. But if at all possible, try to stay in Hamburg, Germany and Europe in general longer than a week. I understand time and money constraints, but you really must spend more time in certain places. That is also true of the UK, of course. BTW: One of the „games“ people like to play here is to look for all of the figures of people having sex (as in the van in this video). There are quite a few of them. ;-) Take care!

The idea of "having too much time" is wrong - everybody is smiling happily, when he sees the amazing miniature world (especially for the first time). You too! So the time is spend very well. (Luckily I´m living in a town only 2.5 hours of driving to Hamburg and visited the MiniaturWunderland for round about 20 times by now. Every visit is fascinating, because the world is growing day by day and the skills of the model makers became better and better.)

I went a couple of years ago. It's a victim of it's own success, so crowded you could hardly get a cigarette paper between people and almost impossible to get near the exhibits. But it is wonderfully done. Just not a pleasant experience if you don't like those sorts of crowds.

It depends in when you are there. I've been there around 10 times or more. They did change the amount of people that are being let into the attraction so it's more limited and recommended to book a ticket in advance. I've been there a few tears ago where it was too crowded but the last time I visited I was lucky and there were only a maximum of 10 people in a room (because it was a slow day)
