"I see one, then they all appear" lol that is so true with mushroom hunting. I've stood in a spot and scanned like crazy, and never see a single shroom. Then you manage to spot one, and your eyes just suddenly train themselves to see them. Suddenly, morels everywhere

Thanks so much for the tips❣️ I especially appreciated the tip about the lilacs being in full bloom. I've been apart of the Mycology society and the morels are the one mushroom that they seem not to show us spots. I went out a few times looking this year. But unfortunately it's been pretty dry in Colorado this year. You are very fortunate to have someone take you to their spot, this isn't something mushroom pickers do very often.

Thank you! That looked both fun and delicious! It gave me ‘shroomin’ fever. I enjoy picking them, almost as much as I love eating them. They’re just ain’t much better eating than frying up a mess of lightly breaded Morels. I’ve been hunting then since I was a really young child with my Mom, Dad, brothers and sisters. We used to find shopping bags full but for the last several years they have become more scarce. Lots of the land nearby is now posted or sold for development. I have the best memories hunting them, with my family and later on with my nieces and nephews. I get morel fever every year beginning in late February, as I know it’s probably only a month away from then to begin watching for signs. After I slice and wash them, I roll mine in flour (salt & peppered to taste) and fry them up golden brown. I’m going to try a few nekkid in butter, like cooked above. 😋 Yummy!

I’ve picked morels all around the U.S., but the best place to find them is in the Shenandoah Mts of Virginia. #1 place anywhere. Beats Michigan, the Northeast, the Pacific Northwest. Best of luck!

@@davidbenner2289 Front Royal. Start at the National Park entrance. Skyline Drive. Stop at the first rest area (Shenandoah Overlook). Look downhill. The terrain is steep, but That’s typical habitat for morels. Look for mature tulip poplars trees. Go there now. Mid April to early May. Good luck. Wish I could join you but I’m 1000 miles away.

@@cohoanglervancouverwa6755 some of my boys and I were wildland firefighters for the U. S. Forest Service, in the National Forest on the West side of the South Branch of the Shenandoah River (technically it's all Page Valley). Where you mention is on the Western edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, across from the Massanutten Mountains. Cahas Mountain overlook and Devils Backbone overlook overlooks my property between the the forks of the Shenandoah River. I have one of many sons (7 sons, two daughters) and his family living quite close to that area. Thank you for the tip. I don't get around as much since I broke my back a second time. Our county is the black bear capital of Virginia, our only town is the canoe capital of Virginia. In a straight line, my property is about 2.5 miles from the Park's opening. Here, in the Shenandoah Valley, even a bad day is a good day, no matter the weather.

I live in southern Wisconsin and you will find them during late April all the way through till endish of may, watch for slopes! They absolutely love to grow on slopes. I have always thought southern facing slopes were the only way they will only pop up, but I have found them on west slopes and south slopes, but the Morels don't always need slopes and hillsides. The temperature of soil, time of season in spring, slopes and hillsides, and the trees (Elm, Poplar, Oak, Black cherry, and Pine) are the most important factors. I hope this gave you a good bit of knowledge. I have a video i took when my brother walked behind my parents house on may 20th 2018, and found a small motherload that i was jumping for joy and mad at the same time because he doesn't even hunt like I do, yet he finds the biggest yeild. I can upload the video and give you the channel name if you really are interested, sorry for the long talk, happy hunting!
