Awesome song, Deep Purple is a great hard rock band. I love how they let the music flow. Songs like this were in protest against war, in particular this was against the Vietnam war. It's horrible how war takes its toll on people and their mental health. These songs are timeless and they remind us how deep humans can go in grief, sorrow and pain. This was a great song and I enjoyed your reaction, as always.

That was the 'classic' line up of that band. They had different members over the years, but this original line up played again in the 1990s. You should hear the 1990s live version of Child In Time (from Come Hell or High Water) on KZbin.

Ian Gillan, the singer, was also the singer on the original concept album that led to the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar". If you liked this, his song "Gethsemane", which takes place when Jesus understands that he has to die, will blow you away. I would suggest you compare it to Ted Neeley's version from the film musical. Both absolutely incredible. I actually saw Ted Neeley a couple of years ago. Well into his seventies, and he can still hit THAT note.

Good you also noticed the very calm audience. Remember that was in 1971-1972 I think and people by then they were not used to wild and loud rock. Deep Purple was called the loudest hard rock band. So the audience just listened to it intensily like as if an alien space craft landed in front of them. They didn´t know how to act. And by the way thank you for being so beautiful and real for us every time. I appreciate it very much

Deep purple are legends, but too 70s for my Personal tastes (born in 77), but there's no denying that this was a magical time in music for many bands great seeing you Mo and another banger!
@Sp33gan2 жыл бұрын
Hello, my dear Morenikeji! What an amazing ride this song is! From soft light Jazz inspired Rock to Blues-based driving rhythms and everything in between. The song is a statement about the then current war going on in Vietnam, hence the mentions of bullets, flying lead and ricochets. Ian Gillan's high notes are meant to be cries of pain and anguish as well as also displaying an incredible voice. That said, singing this took a lot out of his voice and he soon began to request to the rest of the band that they not play it at their concerts anymore. Deep Purple has had many different lineups of band members, but this is considered by most to be their finest membership. All five members are amongst the best at their instruments and the band would only get better after this song was performed. Keyboardist Jon Lord and Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore are considered to be amongst the greatest of all Rock history. That said, Ian Paice on drums and Roger Glover on bass are gifted musicians, as well. In 1970, singer Ian Gillan played Jesus in the original recording of the smash hit Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar. His singing in that was also as incredible as it is here. Take care and stay safe, my friend. Hello to your sister. ♥
@danlefou2 жыл бұрын
Ian Paice's bursts of machine gun fire are harrowing. The changes of speed and volume reflect what war is said to be like: days of quiet and boredom interspersed with panic and chaos. I think the last few lines are about returning from three tours of duty to public indifference or even hostility, ending in despairing suicide.
@Sp33gan2 жыл бұрын
@@danlefou Absolutely! Ian Paice, and Roger Glover, are often overlooked under the immense talents of Lord, Blackmore and Gillan, yet they were creative, always in time, and knew so well their part was often to make the others look good. I've always been a huge proponent of a great band is nothing without a great rhythm section. If that is what Paice was trying to do, it would be his own creativity coming up with the idea. I like your thinking about those final three lines. I'll admit I hadn't thought that before. Nicely done, and it makes sense.
