Absolutely love the combination of Morgan's playing, drumkit & tuning with those Ehrlund mics... Ever since seeing Ronan Chris Murphy gush about the Shure KSM32 - and hearing some of his drum recordings of Terry Bozzio - I've been on the hunt for overhead mics that give a natural and "complete" drumkit sound that "breathes". I love how the KSM32 mics make my toms and cymbals sound (especially as a "far overhead" pair), but those Ehrlund mics are on a different level. I really dig the drum sound (especially the tom & "Bonham-esque" kick sound of both Morgan & the latest Toontrack 'Area 33' sample library; with Fredrik Thordendal's "bass drum toms drumkit") that these mics can capture. I've been saving up to slowly buy an Ehrlund collection for myself... Can't wait!

Triangle membrane? There really is endless possibility when it comes to sound production and that's what makes making music anything but boring. There was an interview with Brain from primus and he says hans zimmer's studio looks like the set of the movie Minority Report with haptic mirror screens and all. It's really easy to get overwhelmed nowadays with incredible DAWs and many microphones while recording the drums yet the limitations that we put on our creative process is also very freeing like for example not tempering the compressor too much, or moving on to effects after a while opposed to just eq'ing everything endlessly.
