This was interesting to see, so thanks for showing! 💖 I think I do prefer the slightly less saturation in the older version, but I'm completely and wonderfully happy with the newer edition that I have. 😊

Thanks so much Jen! Glad it was interesting. I agree both editions are lovely and I wouldn’t have even known there was a difference if I hadn’t grabbed that older edition on a whim because it was cheap. 😆

I actually love the more colour saturated version! I have the Made in Italy version from 2004 as well as Morgan Greer smaller version in a tin from 2015. The 2015 version that comes in a tin has a similar colour saturation as that older Belgian copy you have, but I wish it was just as colour saturated as the one made in Italy from 2004. I also bought a copy in the '90s that I gave away a long time ago. Regardless, I like both versions I have now and I have been really reconnecting with this tarot and enjoying it so much. It feels so much like getting advice from an old friend.

Thank you for this video! I've had my Morgan-Greer since the early nineties and it is quite worn. Up until today, I thought mine was lighter (both backs and fronts) from use compared to the new ones I see in YT videos. Just like I thought my Morgan-Greer had those little black dots that appear on some of the backgrounds from use.

I’m so glad it was useful! Yeah the nineties ones are definitely lighter in color because despite the box wear on the old copy I got the cards seem basically unused. I really think they look nicer. Thanks for watching 💕

I ordered a new version, bc my MG is very old and was beginning to get fragile. I agree with you 100%. It's a bummer.

It really is a bummer when the manufacturing process can result in such different outcomes for the exact same deck! I feel like there are some classics (like the MG) that are almost due for a “remastered” edition to correct artwork that has probably been reproduced and redigitized so many times it’s lost its integrity from the original.

Thank you for making this. I'm definitely going to consider adding the older deck to my collection. I don't understand how Morgan Greer and RWS both got worse with age, even though we have better printing technology. (MG didn't change nearly as much as RWS did in terms of color, but I digress.)

So glad it was helpful! And yeah it’s so weird to me that some of the decks have gotten lower in print quality over time....my guess is it’s just lazily using old scans with poor resolution and color reproduction rather than taking the time to clean anything up. The Morgan Greer is enough of a classic that I think it would be worthwhile for them to do a cleaned up printing with original colors like the Centennial RWS.

I liked the comparison. In today's modern mantra in manufacturing world it is "Quantity above Quality" to maximise profits. Whereas years pack it was "Quality" that counted.

So I just got a vintage copy of the Aquarian Tarot because I liked the coloration better on that version (the current printings have crazy saturation it seems?), and so I wanted to see the difference between vintage vs modern MG, and this video was so helpful, so thank you! Now to save up for a vintage copy of this lol. The hyper saturation is such an odd choice, especially on that 9 of Cups lol.

Seriously it seems like with so many of these older decks the image quality has degraded so much over the years…it feels like it’s time to give some of them the RWS treatment with some newer cleaned-up editions that are specifically designed to more closely replicate the originals.

Very cool video idea. I Didn’t know there were these differences. Watching now 👀 thank you! I have the tin version and have always wanted an old one to wear in and rough up. If that makes sense lol. I want an old beat up one but I want to be the one beating it up. (Babbling 🤪🥴) I have an old Vintage Aquarian deck and loveee it. I love the vintage decks so much.

Thank you for this, I didn't know about these differences. Based on this video, I definitely prefer the older, Belgian print. I guess now I have to decide whether to go for the relatively cheap, easy-to-get 'modern' edition or try to track down a copy of the earlier, more expensive one. :)

Hello 🤗 I own the 90s Italian edition of the Morgan Greer, printed in Belgium (The Chariot on the front and the eight of Cups on the back). I noticed that some of the cards are slightly out of focus: the Star, the Hermit, the Moon and a couple of the minor arcana cards too. Have you noticed this too with your edition? Or it's just mine?

Hello! Nice comparison. I do prefer the older edition too! Do you know if there are different boxes for the 1993 english edition? I came across a 1993 one that I would like to buy, but the box is different from yours. The back doesn't have a picture of the 8 of cups. It has instead only the infos about the tarot and then that is published and printed by Morgan & Morgan Inc. NY 1979 and distributed by US Games Systems. And on the side where yours has written that is printed in Belgium, in that one it has written inside a white rectangle that it's distributed by US Games Systems. It's included a booklet where it's stated 1993 along the 1979 and the seller says the deck is the 1993 edition. Now I'm not sure it's truly a1993 version. They might have swapped the box or the booklet? Hope you can help! Thanks

The mass market Morgan Greer is sort of a matte satin...they’re not glossy but also not completely matte. They feel almost waxy if that makes sense?

I wish I could afford the older deck. The 10 of pentacles is so squashed it's putting me off! I decluttered it for that reason but I regret it so bad and keep wanting to come back to it!

It’s such a great deck and it’s a shame when artwork gets kind of squashed and butchered over the years…wish they’d do some super high-res scans of an actual vintage deck and issue a “remastered” edition or something! 😆

I did a reading today and I made the best decision to go back and try the proper version of this deck! If that makes sense 😅 It’s not as bold in colour but I’m fine with that when I have a whole image!

I love this vintage deck, but I never really appreciated the back of the cards ... for me, the worst of all! They should have done a different edition some time ago, because this is tacky and very bad taste.
