'Super Size Me' filmmaker Morgan Spurlock has died. He was 53. The director's family confirmed to 'Variety' that he died following a cancer battle on Thursday. Spurlock shot to fame in 2004 with his big-screen McDonald's takedown, which explored the physical effect of fast food on one's health.

There are a lot of people that will be writing similar sentiments over the coming days; there was a good reason _Super Size Me_ was such a huge hit among documentaries and he opened a lot of people's eyes to what they were _actually_ eating out of convenience and just how unhealthy it was.

The guy that got rich telling everyone the most obvious fact - that eating fast food every day isn’t healthy? Not sure why he deserves admiration or praise. Maybe I should make a documentary where I don’t eat or drink anything for 30 days and reveal the shocking fact that my health declines. Or maybe I should make a documentary where I eat nothing but Snickers bars for 30 days in an attempt to prove that Snickers bars are baaad for your health. Then, when I die at a young age, y’all can mourn and pretend that I was some enlightened genius.

He was one of my idols as far as documentary and docu-comedy filmmaking was concerned. There'd be no @SkinnyEMedia without him and a few other names. Shame his legal and moral issues and from what I was told, his alcoholism got the better of him. He, and Anthony Bourdain, will never be forgotten in my memory. R.I.P.

I just Googled him a couple of weeks ago when I learned he had cancer. I didn't know about the SA stuff until then, but was low-key impressed that at least he ADMITTED it. I can forsee the same early fate for Nikocado Avocado if he continues down the same road. Sending condolences to Morgan's children🙏💝

So it’s official that my uncle who ate like a pig, including many many fast food items, outlived him by 20 years.

Fun fact: the reason he gained so much weight during the making of the documentary was the fast food diet combined with his raging alcoholism, which he lied to his doctors about so as not to discredit the message and sales of the film.

Early 2000s was the sh*t even with the US going to multiple gncds in the middle east, we still lived like it was the 90s here in Canada. This documentary was everywhere. Simpler times.
