This is the ONLY video on youtube telling exactly how to do these three strokes. Out of hundreds.

Great to watch my friend Monette teaching so much about the basics. I would add one thing... you can't learn this all in one viewing. Doesn't matter how long you've been playing 10-20 years, it takes watching this over and over again WITH your djembe with you. Play with other drummers and study the Djembe! Go!...

Thank you Monette for a very clear instructions. I just took Djembe class today, the instructor told me the tone technique is having the hand level flat while the slap technique is bending hand up like airplane leaving the ground. Your technique is different.I didn’t buy a drum yet, I need to practice to find out. At least I could learn how to distinguish the 3 sounds from your video. Thank you very much.

I have a 14" remo djembe and it's VERY hard to reproduce the sounds you are getting on your drum and that's so frustrating :(
@morhythm2 күн бұрын
It does take a lot of practice and repetition. Having a teacher who can oversee your technique is beneficial as well. Apart from that, make sure your Remo drum is tuned up (not too low of a pitch). And if there are still too many overtones, I have seen some people apply electrical tape along the rim of the drum skin to reduce those.

What is your reason for using a waiste strap while sitting?
@morhythm Жыл бұрын
It stabilizes the djembe at the angle and distance from my body that I like without having to strain my legs.
