This is the first time in years I’ve seen Moriah keep her squishies a keychain. I’ve been a fan of her since her first squishy makeover btw. (Edit: can everyone stop saying “oh you’ve not been a fan since her first squishy makeover video video” like obviously I’m not going to remember if she left the keychain in every one of her squishes or not- she’s made like 80 of them. Red velvet is essentially chocolate with less cocoa and with buttermilk to add a bit of a tang. It sort of ends up being a mix of chocolate and vanilla in flavor due to having less cocoa, so some people that don’t like chocolate cake do like red velvet. I personally prefer chocolate much more, though.

Red Velvet used to be colored with beet juice during WWII because of the rationing of baking ingredients like sugar and butter. Today the color just comes from food coloring. Buttermilk AND vinegar give it the tang today. It's vanilla cake with some tablespoons of cocoa.

Loved these! Especially the sprinkle duckie. The little bear kind of looks like he just popped out of a hot cocoa bomb and I love that idea. Also, red velvet IS technically made with cocoa, (though in my experience very little) and goes great with strawberries! Great vid, as usual!

Regarding Red Velvet: when baking red velvet cake, I use a small amount of cocoa powder and vanilla. It's not quite chocolate. What makes red velvet taste different is that it's usually made with buttermilk and vinegar to add a rich lightness and slight bitterness to the cake. Because of this I also add dark chocolate chunks to the batter. The chocolate helps bring out the cocoa powder flavor in the cake, it's also really fun. I also refuse to use cream cheese frosting with red velvet because, when cream cheese is at room temperature in the frosting the flavors taste separate to me and the cream cheese flavor doesn't quite compliment the richness the buttermilk brings. I use a whipped chocolate ganache filling and an Italian meringue buttercream on the outside. Both bring a bit of lightness and smoothness to the cake, which is welcome with how dense the cake can be. I baked this cake for my boyfriend's family on a vacation one time and they begged me to bake them this cake again for Harvest Day (Thanksgiving). It's a surprising cake that is extremely memorable. If you ever wanna give these tips to a baker friend, I bet you'd enjoy red velvet then ✨

You need to add the cream cheese last and whip it lightly into the buttercream to avoid that separation you speak of. It also makes the cream cheese frosting pipeable and keep it shape. It delicious.

@@Wuvfle Devil's Food Chocolate is made with hot water and baking chocolate (not cocoa powder) for the batter because the water thins the batter making the rise more dense in the oven and the hot water slowly melts the chocolate into the batter enhancing the chocolate flavor. Because both cakes are made differently, they end up with different results. Baking is a science and the difference in ingredients is basically chemistry, all of the measurements matter.

Red velvet is not chocolate but it's made with Cocoa, and it's also made with Buttermilk, Butter, Vinegar and Flour, Cream Cheese, plus the usual cake ingredients. The reason it doesn't taste like chocolate is because it has way less chocolate in it than a regular chocolate cake. The combination of ingredients creates a red and velvety texture, hence the reason for the name. Hope this helps!
